Just drove back from my parents house in Bonavista and the roads were really bad. Looks like there was some wet flurries that froze and put down a slick layer under the snow. Take it easy out there for sure.

Agreed, the roads are crappy tonight.

On our way back from Cochrane tonight some ***hole in a Jeep Grand Cherokee spun out from the far right lane clear across the grass median into oncoming traffic before slingshotting into the ditch in the median.

This jerk-off then proceeded to pass us at about twenty clicks above the posted speed limit as we entered the city limits.

Unfortunately, these are the kind of people who cause major pileups and rarely end up in single car accidents like they should.

Good call guys. I just drove home from my parents tonight. Avoided Deerfoot in lieu of Centre St from the North, don't know what Deerfoot was like but Centre St. is pure ice in some points. The only nice thing is that since there is little traffic out there, there aren't as many things to hit. None the less - if you have the option of not driving...DON'T!

OMG....I drove home from Edmonton last night at 1 in the morning, and let me tell you it was like driving in a nuclear winter. You couldn't see 15 feet in front of you, and quite simply, you had to drive by instinct and not road rules. Thank god for the guy in front of us, who we used as a guide to get from Red Deer to Calgary. All we could do is follow and hope he didn't veer off the road.

I've never seen anything like that in my life.....It was ruthless, god-forsaken conditions, and I've never been so legitimately scared in my life. Thank god I was a good boy this year, cause Santa rewarded me with an extended stay on this earth!

I'm driving to Grande Prairie in about an hour, has anyone been on hwy 43 today? I can usually count on that stretch of road to be a mess.

Oy what fun. I had to drop my immediate family off in Airdrie after spending the day in Cochrane. No way in hell was I going to take the 22/567. Went up the 1A then over to Deerfoot, up to Airdrie, then back home. Not fun. Fortunately, no incidents. Gotta love the first serious snowfall of the year.

Can't wait until a real blizzard hits.... Last year I drove from High Level to Calgary in a blizzard. Took two days, and I actually almost made it the whole way, until the always poorly maintained stretch of the 2 from Red Deer to Airdrie finally got th best of me and I became the 51st vehicle I counted in the ditch over that stretch.

Also, just to add to the comments about the stupidly fast drivers, I have to mention the stupidly slow drivers p*ss me off just as much. One guy was doing 30 on John Laurie Blvd last night, when everyone else was doing 50-60 safely. As a result, everyone had to try and pass that a-hole, which given the road conditions, and the idiot speeders, was quite difficult.

I've always felt that a driver doing 30kph below the going rate of traffic is at least equally as dangerous as the driver doing 30kph above the going rate. If you are too scared to drive, get off the damn road.

highway 97 between clinton and quesnel looks like it's been hit with several zamboni laps, ditch the car and walk.
