Default Shea Weber, come on down!

In a shocking deal that saw the GM Mooney return from his anger management classes and make a deal without the previously required 2 month debating window. Discussions between the Flyers and Ducks involved 2 different trades which in the end merged to make one large trade seeing 5 players swap sides as well as 3 picks and 7 million dollars!

Here is how the deal breaks down:

To the Flyers:
Luke Schenn
Paul Martin
Jake Gardiner

To the Ducks:
Shea Weber
Jason Blake
WIN 1st 09
PHI 2nd 09
ATL 2nd 09
7 mill

The key here was bringing in Weber who is on a new 3 year deal paying him 4.5 per year. We feel he has loads of potential that is unfilled and we hope he explodes this year to make his contract a great value contract in the final 2 years of the deal. Blake brings another veteran presence, a scorer who can play defence, 77OV should fit in nicely on the wing in our top 2 lines.

Losing all that youth really hurts, Schenn will be a top defensive dman in the league but it might take a little while for him to have some big time ratings and after we acquired our main target in Stamkos, we felt Schenn should just be used to parlay another deal as his value is high. Gardiner is a very mobile Dman who is expected to develop into a key player for the NHL Ducks. Martin also is underrated being a top 2 player in NJ. While Weber and him have similar ratings, Weber is younger and has more potential.

We see this as a move that helps both sides. The Ducks bring in a valuable Shea Weber and a contributer for this year in Jason Blake. The Flyers add 2 very good prospects as well as a good Dman who is still relatively young.

Thanks to Mooney for the good talks, negotiating and actually making counters and concessions.

Wow...what were the Flyers thinking? The two best players in the trade, 3 draft picks and cash...wow....The Ducks must have some compromising pictures of Moon for this trade to go down

Flyers aren't winning this year and aren't winning next year so might as well let a good guy like Ravi take a shot at the cup.

In reality Blake is lucky to have his 76 OV rating this year and was not going to be back with the team next year so he has no real value to the Flyers right now. To get anything back for him is a positive at this point.

Weber had one good year and was lucky enough to become overrated by everyone and his mother. Hopefully he returns to his actual skill level now that his wonder season is another year older.

Picks are picks and turn into nothing 95% of the time. I could have thrown in a few more but Ravi felt he had enough of them so who I am I to argue. I kept the important Flyers pick so still have a shot at Tavares next season which is important for our goal of being successful in 2015.

In the end my team sucked last year with good players on it and I got bored of doing nothing. I lost two guys who in my view won't do much for the team and picks that I would have wasted anyways.

Still plenty of good players in Philly left be to moved but everytime I say that the offers seem to dry up. Oh well maybe this deal will have the vultures circling.

I think that without the WIN 1st 09, PHI 2nd 09, and ATL 2nd 09 this deal would look much better. I think that Weber is the best asset in this deal and Schenn and Gardiner have a long way to go to catch him. I think that the Flyers win the Martin for Blake swap hands down though.

Martin was moved for Weber!

It was Schenn for Blake.

And the picks and Gardiner were thrown in by Ravi because I didn't care too much but any of them.

2nd round picks really shouldn't have much value as they really don't amount to squat, but I do know that some people do like them so good on Ravi for prying them out of my wide open hands!

That deal is insanely one-sided imo. I don't know how Ravi managed that one.

Wow.... I didn't realize this was a political convention. Can I give Ravi some players too. He seems like a good guy.

Who cares what the players name is. A 76OV is not a throw in. Lesser players have been flipped for more value.

Convince yourself that Webber sucks and this deal does look good. I think you will have trouble convincing 29 other GM's that he sucks.

Picks are picks? Sure if you are talking about 4th's or 5th's most top 45 picks in a draft should be given every opportunity to develop. You make them sound like a game of Keno.

If you are bored then look through the transactions from last year and see how Ryan took a $hit team out of cellar and turned it into a champion. I am pretty sure he never gave anything away.

You can do what you like with your players you are the GM.

I did get something back for him. Unless I was mistaken there were a few guys coming back in the deal and I don't think they all have 55 ratings while playing in the Austrian third division.

They can have every opportunity to develop but they rarely do. Not to mention the extra time it takes in this league for that development to turn into results in terms of ratings.

He was able to win good for him, not sure how that is relevant here. Not giving anything away here, once again there are pieces coming back my way.

Not everybody has to like it or like every move.

But lucky enough for all those who were all worked up it appears that the league may be able to wave its magic wand and make it all better for you soon enough.

Stay tuned for more exciting details. I for one can't wait to see how everything turns out.

Nice to see so many GMs in a hissy fit for this deal that obviously had collusion!

I didn't know Shea Weber was worth more then Dion Phaneuf and that Blake was going to be retained by the Ducks next summer at 6 some million per year.

Anyways, we are more then happy to have the league review the deal, take out thinks we got and add things from our end if it really is believed that this was a God-aweful trade. I have spoken to Mooney and the two teams will speak to the league and reach some sort of agreement of what is a fair trade.

Nice to see some action!

If that's really your attitude about picks/prospects then why are you selling Schenn and Gardiner as some awesome pieces you got back in the deal. You throw away 1st and 2nd rounders because they are useless (fair enough if that's your opinion), but then you're happy to get prospects years away from a rating back in the deal? Just doesn't make much sense.

A top five pick, especially in the past draft, is quite different from 3 2nd rounders. (The Jets pick is at the end of the first round so basically a 2nd rounder with the number of teams we have.)

I think First round picks, especially high picks are valuable because they do have not only a shot of turning into something, but turning into something useful fast.

Schenn has a shot of playing for the Leafs in the next two years and making a impact while doing so. Meaning that his rating could actual be useful within a reasonable time frame.
