Default I need an insurance broker, stat!

Well I have just had an insanely good stroke of fortune come my way and I am now in need of auto insurance for a 1998 Ford Ranger. I'm 25 with a clean driving record, although I have not had full-time auto insurance for a few years.

I am most certainly interested in paying a broker to present me with some choices as opposed to digging them all up myself as I am very busy right now.

Thanks CP!

Your insurance broker will shop around and find you the best deal. You do not have to pay them individually for anything. It's quite easy actually. I don't know the insurance brokers in Calgary but there have to be a number of good ones. In Red Deer, Ing & McKee Insurance brokers are especially good.

I've used Sun Valley Insurance for over 10 years now. They are down in the far south end of the city just east of McLeod. They know who you are when you call or pop in and are very pleasant to deal with.

I ended up going here and I agree. They are outstanding. They got my business because they took the time to arrange everything (paperwork with other companies etc) and then my year cost only $675.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company!

So then here's a tough question, where does one go with shyte driving record: Driving without due care (basically cop thinks your driving while impaired, but not impaired enough for a criminal charge); license suspension (got it back); accident. All of this happened on a terrible night in my life in 2007.

I kind of wish there was such a thing as 'Second Chance Insurance' where you can still get a decent deal until one more screw up, no matter how trivial, and that's when they throw the book at you.

I guess I just realize that I made a bad mistake, but honestly know it won't happen again.

I've heard that tickets/convictions 'go away' after 3 years, and accidents 'go away' after 6 years. Looks like it could be 2013 before I get a decent rate again.

I don't think you'll find a good deal with that on your record. Technically you have demonstrated that you are a high risk, and your insurance company may still be paying for your 'bad night'. Good luck with your search but I'd be surprised if anybody cuts you a break..

BTW, if anyone's interested we share office space with a pretty decent broker, Haggett & Rogers. I happen to know that at least one high-profile feisty former flame has his insurance business there.

Actually, I try never to speak of Roman Turek.

I shouldn't tell tales out of school though so I'll leave it at that.

I am with Wawanesa. I have had no accidents or incidents with them so I cant say first hand if they are good or not. I use them cause my parents used them and they always seemed to act above board when dealing with claims.

I have my home and auto insurance with them.

Yeah, kind of what I figure too. Ironically, the accident happened when I was turning on amber. The guy in the right hand lane hit my rear end, my front wheels were already over the pedestrian lines. He hit me going 70kms in a 50kms zone. I was mere inches from avoiding the collision

The dude that hit me was driving his dad's BMW and was only 17. Had his license for 3 days. I know how he was looking at it, staring at the light turning yellow and gunning it instead of scanning the intersection. There was no one in the left lane, so he could have easily missed me and he didn't touch the brake at all (in other words he didn't see me).

At the end of the day, despite all this, still 100% responsible

On the bright side, I enjoy biking when I can! I live only 10 blocks from the office, so a bike or walk commute is fast and easy. Plus as you can tell from my avatar, I'm quite a green person, so I don't mind keeping some emissions out of the atmosphere. Also not having to pay for gas is kind of a nice thing too.

Basically finding any possible positives for me not renewing my insurance for awhile!
