Mens Rec League has opening for one team
THE ERHL (energy resources hockey league) was just informed that one of our teams would not be returning, and we have an opening for one team to join our league for the coming season (we begin play Sept 18/19 weekend). League has been in operation for 25+ years. Please see information below about our league. If you have any questions/ interest please contact khodgson@aspenfamily.org.
§Last year each team paid $6700. Don’t have any idea exactly what they will be this year however assume in this vicinity. New teams do have to pay a $500 initiation as well their first season.
§Our icetimes are the following: Fri 10:15p Southland and 10:30p Centennial, Sat 8:00p Southland, 9:30 SAIT, and 10:30 Centennial, and Sunday 8:45a at SAIT. Teams all play one game Friday OR Saturday (never both) then two of the teams who play Friday will play Sunday morning as well. All teams play an equal number of Sunday morning games, we try our best to even out the number of Friday and Saturday nights, locations, etc otherwise. Ice times are 1 ¼ hours, stop time with two refs, 12, 12, 15 minute periods. The past couple of years we hired timekeepers, though sounds like that is ending so home team has to provide a time keeper, even if it means a player off the bench. Running time is not an option.
§Players must be born prior to September 1, 1977 to play in our league. That being said the typical player is late 30’s, early 40’s. There are a couple in their 50’s
§There is a 40 minute PIM cap per player. Minors, double minors, and majors count as 2, 4, and 5 minutes respectively, 10’s and games count as 4 minutes towards the cap. Three minors in a game and you are done for the night (no automatic game), 5’s carry an automatic game which also includes an automatic two game misconduct. A second game misconduct carries a four game suspension, and third expulsion. If a player exceeds the PIM cap he is gone from the league; he can ask to be reinstated the following season though I anticipate there would be little will in the league to do so to be honest. There has not been a player exceed the cap since I joined the league (6 years). The league on the whole is pretty clean, I would say each team has a guy or two that pushes it a bit. Some teams have a little more trouble getting along with some teams than others, The league has one to two fights a season but in every case they are both willing parties and not someone running around acting like an ass.
§As far as quality of play, each team has a couple of guys who standout, a guy or two who are new to the game, and the majority in the middle (played midget aa level or so). The league’s primary interest is in having a fairly even level of play; the team leaving lost every game 13-1 and that was no fun for anyone, but of course we don’t want a team coming in that would roll us all 13-1 either.
