Default Props to Victoria, B.C.

Anyone notice how many of the Canadian Olympic medalists train in Victoria? Athletes like Simon Whitfield, Ryan Cochrane, the mens eight rowing team and the mens lightweight rowers. That's a credit to the training facilities and good weather that Victoria provides. Much like Calgary is Canada's Winter Olympics home, Victoria is now Canada's Summer Olympics home.

A lot of that has to do with the very mild winters in BC. It may not get that hot year round but because it never gets that cold there's always an opportunity. Also why our women's soccer team is so much better than our mens team.

I have most definitely noticed this. It was especially noticeable during the triathlon, when Victoria must have been mentioned a dozen times.

Victoria is also home to all the divers (Saanich Commonwealth Place).

Makes me extra proud to be from this city.

Is it that those athletes are from Victoria or do they live there now?

Definitely the mild winters. I lived with someone who was dating a rower on the national team. It was the only place they could row outdoors near year round.

Victoria isn't home to all the divers. Only Riley McCormick trains in Victoria. Reuben Ross is from Regina and trains in Edmonton. Alexandre Despatie is from Quebec and trains in Montreal or Pointe Claire. Blythe Hartley is from Edmonton (I think) but trains in Calgary. Jennifer Abel is from Quebec and trains in Montreal and the same goes with Emilie Heymans.

Nearly all the divers train in Montreal with CAMO diving club.

I used to dive competitively with all of them. I know most of them fairly well.

LOL, I thought this thread would be about some kind of announcement for a sewage treatment plant.

Me too. Victoria is brutal on that.

I gotta say, since I've moved here I have really enjoyed it. Nothing will beat that Alberta Sky, but its frickin' sweet here.

Ya, I overestimated the diving obviously, but Blythe Hartley did train here with Boardworks fwiw.

Also, the best player on the baseball team is from Victoria.

Not sure if anybody caught it, but Simon Whitfield's interview with Ron was really nice today. Talked very candidly. Talked about how the first time he got that guy Jenkins (?) out to Victoria, they went to the Crystal Pool and Jenkins said "this is where you guys train?" The Crystal Pool is an inner city facility here in Victoria and where I actually learned to swim 15 years ago. It`s not the nicest facility LOL.

Props to my high school (just outside of Victoria) for pumping out three Canadian medalists and one more olympian!
