Default dell laptop screen replacement

i have a dell inspiron 1720, and the screen has gone bad. about 40% of the screen is blank white. i have sent it off to dell, and i just received a voicemail from them saying it 'might' not be under warranty and it 'might' cost $499 to replace.

does anybody know how to go about getting this fixed locally, for much cheaper? dell has really pissed me off lately and now i wish i never bought the damn thing. help oh wise CP!

First off, whatever Dell tells you fight them tooth and nail on it.

As to your question, I do recall a website that sells replacement screens and has detailed instructions to install. I will try and find it.

Edit: http://www.screentekinc.com/ is the site that a guy at school refered me to a year or so ago. I didnt end up doing it, so I really can't tell you how positive the experience would be.

Screens are usually tough to change on laptops...

Not impossible just tough. Depending on the panel, it will usually cost around 300.00 for the panel. Then labour to change it, which is gonna be likely around an hour if the guy is taking his time being careful not to break any plastic clips. Of course there is a good chance of him breaking a critical clip and you having a lose plastic piece which they may have to replace so that usually charge a little extra for risk factor.

It's about the most expensive thing to replace for sure
