Default Comparable devices to the ipod touch

My friend bought a Touch over the weekend and I had a chance to play around with it a bit and it's a pretty cool device.

I have an ipod nano that I won at my company Christmas party, and it works pretty well for me. Not sure if I would ever really purchase an Apple product or not. It seems to me some people buy ipods just because it's an ipod and they don't think there is any other choice out there when there obviously is.

There are tons of other mp3 devices that can compare to the current 80gb classic model ipods, but i'm not aware of a direct competitor to the touch.

I'm not looking for anything with phone capability, but touch screen would be nice, as well as wi-fi. Is there anything on the market right now that can compare to the touch? Or is there anything that is around the corner that we can look forward to?

Cheers.

Well, there is a Samsung product that might be what you're looking for: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/re...edia-Player/p1

I use an iPod Touch mostly because it doubles as my PDA. It synchs directly with all the apps I currently use, has a WiFi function and can be expanded via the iTunes app store.

For the type of use I've become accustomed to, the iPod Touch's only competition is the iPhone.

I think the Microsoft Zune has wifi... but I don't think you can buy it in canada (yet?) and I don't think it has a browser.

I have the touch and I love it.. only thing i would trade it in for is an iphone.

I have a 160GB iPod Classic and I love it. I got it because the Hard drive is quite big, and I have filled over 100GB of it (a lot of videos since I will be travelling) and music obviously. My friend at work has a 2G iPhone and I love it as well! The new 3G iPhone looks impressive and it would be neat to have. I don't use my cellphone enough as it is so it isn't worth spending over $500 on one, but it has a LOT of good features. Web browser/Wi-Fi, music, GPS sort of.

The iPod touch has many similar features, and I would have got one, but 32GB is way too little, as I had to upgrade from my old 30GB because I filled it up, thus I got a 160.

Obviously.

There probably is something similar out there but I don't know a single person who owns a touch that would even bother looking. In the past 3 software revisions, the device has reinvented itself 3 times and is becoming more and more useful.

Until Apple's competitors objectives become lets make something cool and innovative rather than lets make a iWhatever KILLAH, the iPod will still be dominate.

Some of the smaller companies make some cool mp3 players but no one has the vertical market coverage that Apple does. MS came close with Zune 2.0 but it was only marginally better than the iPods of the time. Then the touch came out.....

I know a lot of people buy apple products simply because of the name, but in this case the only device that beats out the itouch is the iphone imo. True there are devices comparable to ipods, but the itouch is a little unmatched at this point. The app store alone puts it head and shoulders above most anything.
