It seems to me some people buy ipods just because it's an ipod and they don't think there is any other choice out there when there obviously is.
There are tons of other mp3 devices that can compare to the current 80gb classic model ipods, but i'm not aware of a direct competitor to the touch.
I'm not looking for anything with phone capability, but touch screen would be nice, as well as wi-fi. Is there anything on the market right now that can compare to the touch? Or is there anything that is around the corner that we can look forward to?
Cheers.

Obviously.
There probably is something similar out there but I don't know a single person who owns a touch that would even bother looking. In the past 3 software revisions, the device has reinvented itself 3 times and is becoming more and more useful.
Until Apple's competitors objectives become lets make something cool and innovative rather than lets make a iWhatever KILLAH, the iPod will still be dominate.
Some of the smaller companies make some cool mp3 players but no one has the vertical market coverage that Apple does. MS came close with Zune 2.0 but it was only marginally better than the iPods of the time. Then the touch came out.....
