Game 7: Stamps At Riders
Last game the Riders won a squeaker even though Stampeders made so many mistakes (dumb penalties, drop balls and bad coaching decision). Riders QB Crandell was not really a factor at all. He was just an average QB but his team won. Wes Cates ran all over the Stampeders defense and he also recovered a controversial fumble by Dominguez for a TD before the end of the 1st half.
Would the Riders repeat? They lost R Dominguez and R Berman to injuries and the team is so banged up we don't even know if there is anyone left to play. Injuries or not, the Riders always find ways to win. Would our beloved Stamps take advantage of it? In the last 2 games, the opposing QB finished the game scott-free, no QB sacks because there was no pressure from the defense. I really think Labinjo should stay on the DLine as he is always determine to get to the QB and stop the run. He seems lost playing as MLB. Eddie Freeman hasn't been dominant lately while Hodges missed the game last week. On LB, Armour should be very mad and might play really hard this game. Chris Jones should use Gootegoerd and spell relief to any of the LB. On DBs, they have to be more aggressive and punish receivers, or try to push the ball from the Receiver's hand. It worked against the Lions. Oh yeah no foolish penalties.
Offense: One thing I have noticed the last few games was the dissapearance of Reynolds. It was not because Reynolds was playing poorly, it was because the Stamps seems to abandon the run in the first half. Hence, more pressures on Burris because every defensive guy knows he will throw the ball. Reynolds is one of the best or maybe the best RB in the CFL, so I hope the Stamps use him wisely. It looks like we are going back from last call play again when Reynolds only run for 5-6 times. With Reynolds clicking, Burris can distribute the ball properly. He can throw short passes, long passes, run the ball himself so it is very important that Reynolds gets involve in the game right from the start. With so many good receivers for the Stamps, Burris can use every single one of them without worrying about the mistakes. Nik Lewis been playing well lately with his catches and yards after catches. He's also been great with blocking. Rambo is the go-to-guy but he's been struggling with the ball lately. Rambo was non-existant last game vs the Riders. The other games, he's the leading receivers but he tends to fumble the ball a few times. Brett Ralph is the other option. He seems to know where to go as he's always open. Whenever Burris needed a good gain, he seems to find Ralphie. Whatever happenned to Copeland, a few drop passes last game and most of the games, he wasn't even a factor. Burris doesn't go to him that much anymore. The forgotten Ryan Thelwell. This guy is supposed to be an awesome Canadian receiver but we rarely seen Burris throwing his end. Asides from last game, he's been catching the ball really well on an important time. We should have a better effort from the OLine this game.
Special Team: I've been saying it every game now. Marcus Howell has been brutal and dissapointment. He is very predictable with a few options. (1) let the ball sail all the way to the end zone. Only way Stamps can get a good field position (start on 35 yards). (2) Catch the ball and run for 2, 3 or less than 10 yards. Not good enough because Burris and the gang will have to start deep. Aside from last game with Lewis awesome block, Howell has been predictable. Heck, you don't even have to worry about going to the washroom and miss anything whenever the opponent punt the ball. Don't the Stamps have any other option? Burke Dales needs to make quick decisions in punting the ball to avoid getting delay of the game penalties.
Overall, if Stamps can avoid all the dumb penalties and be discipline they can win the game. If they repeat their performance last game; then we will see another frustrating game.
Things to do: run more, more pressure from DLIne and LB, stop Wes Cates. Catch the ball properly and no more dumb penalties.

SASK is no doubt a very good TEAM, but they have been getting all the breaks and calls this year.
I think CGY puts the boots to them Thursday.

They better, I can't stand Riders fans. All they were doing was chanting "SIX AND O, SIX AND O" at the end of the game while wearing watermelons on their heads. I suppose I have some sympathy for them when I remember that the Riders are their ONLY professional sports team...still though, what an obnoxious fan base.

If they could ever pull out an effort like they have in the second half for the first, it would be all but over. I need them to beat this dumb green team already. It's too much.

yeah i'm sick of losing to the riders. but hey, a couple regular season losses to them I don't have any problem with if we were to meet them in the playoffs and beat them. That would taste sweet.

Pft. This post is totally bizarre to me. You bash Rider fans for being some of the best most passionate fans in the league? C'mon. We've had like 2 winning seasons in the last 20 years and this is the first time we've been 6-0 in 74 years!! Hell it was 38 years since the last time we've been 4-0. And you're going to bash us for cheering? I hardly think that qualifies as obnoxious.
Especially since Mcmahon is not a friendly place for Rider fans. I've had more and abuse there than any of the other 3 buildings I've been to, including EDM.
Now I know Taylor field isn't friendly for the Stamps or their fans but on Labour Day we really treat Bomber fans with respect. Its a big party.

I'm not so much annoyed by Riders fans as I'm annoyed by the love-in that the media has with the Riders fans. Especially TSN. Whenever they show a wide crowd shot, it's clear that there are a lot of Riders fans, maybe enough to fill two or three sections of the stadium: the cheap seats were mostly riders, and then maybe 1-in-10 through the rest of the stadium. Which is about consistent with the ratio at Riders games I've been to. But this is always grossly exaggerated by TSN, to the point that they make it sound like the crowd is 50-50, and whenever they do a close-in crowd shot, they always pick one of the sections that is full of Riders fans. And TSN's lame claim about how it was impossible to buy a watermelon in Calgary was complete bull. I was in three seperate grocery stores in the days leading up to the game, and all of them had plenty of watermelons. Yup, Saskatchewan fans are good fans, but it's to the point where TSN's coverage is extremely insulting to Stamps fans, implying that we're somehow 'outdone' by the Saskatchewan fans.

Same problems as last year IMO for the Stamps.
Burris and his inconsistent play.

Still bitter, are we?
I was unaware that Burris can prevent his receivers from dropping 7 or 8 easy passes last games.

TBQH, I have not seen anything that drastically different between the '07 Stamps and the '08 Stamps. Both versions drop passes, take stupid penalties and play poor D.

Here's what I don't like:
- I don't like the fact that Riders fans can get away with chanting in an opponent's arena. I couldn't imagine letting any sort of Oilers chants or Canucks chants get any legs in our building. Maybe I'm more pissed off at the Stamps fans for that.
-Seemed like every single Riders fan was drunk beyond belief. I don't mind drunk fans, I'm one of those sometimes...it's when it gets to the point of being obnoxious and rude that I take offense. My buddy almost had a fight picked with him by a loud-mouthed Riders fan over Burris...it was ridiculous.
So my post was two-fold, I was venting b/c the Riders fans I encountered were mainly obnoxious and secondly I don't like how Stamps fans sit back and let it happen.

Plus they all have bad or missing teeth so when they chant you get the full glory of staring into a yellow-stained and gap-filled mouth.

I wonder if he even got a ring last year as he was probably on the IR at the time of the Grey Cup.

Get over it. He was a UFA.
I prefer fans with class who don't wear F*&$ Calgary shirts at CFL games, (I'm looking at you Saskatchewan Fans)

Hey I am an Eskimos fan, so long as the lawn gnome is still the coach I will be bitter.
But it was enjoyable to watch another Alberta team have some success, but its the same problem they had when higgins was the coach, at least then they did the bobsled.

That initial turnover by Burris was bad luck IMO, maybe not the greatest play by Burris but the D stood up and only gave up the FG. Good drive by Burris and Reynolds results in a nice TD, and now Sandro with the field goal. Stamps looking good so far.
