I find it incredibly ironic that you of all people are not big on heights.
I think it's because us talk folk don't have a good relationship with the ground. It's far away and foreign to us, so we are scared of it. You short people are much more familiar and therefore comfortable.
Plus, when I jump off a 3m diving board, my eyes are actually 5m from the water. Far more scary!
My guess is this is more about drawing a crowd and making money than breaking a record. Now people will want to come out and see him break the record next time.
How old was that video? It looked like it was from the 70's or 80's. I also think that a cannonball would have been amazing, that would have been 10's accross the board.
I think the IOC should watch this stuff and try to make the events more interesting. I say for next olympics let me in there and I can make every event so amazing that you would sell out every event.

It might have been Wide World of Sports or a show like that. With the diving competition over the next hour of the show might have been a bowling tournament in Sacramento.
Anyone else remember those shows? The craziest sports and combos. Skeet-shooting and cliff diving could take up a Saturday afternoon.
OMG, that was impressive. And the fact that he threw a couple flips in there just adds to it and a perfect entry. Well done. But ya, why not an extra foot?

I'm no fan of heights either. Still that's pretty impressive what he did. If he comes out that dive wrong and lands on his stomach or back he's a dead man. It would be like hitting concrete.
