I started a thread a few weeks back asking about traveling to Brazil and got some amazingly helpful answers. It was brought up a few times that since Brazil is so big that it is hard to cover the area in the 16 days or so I have available.
I have done some research and looked into Central America and came across Guatemala and ended up booking it with my girl friend yesterday (just over $500
) I was wondering if I could get some information or places to see from the CP faithful. We will be going to Antigua, Panachel, and then the Chichi market for the first 5-7 days. From there I think we will bus it north to Tikal and see the ruins. If we have time we may try to make it over to Belize.
There are a few concerns I have with regards to safety but it seems that if you use reasonable caution everything should be okay??? Nevertheless, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I forgot to mention that we will be backpacking and staying in more economic type dwellings
