Flames make a bunch of roster moves
The first move has the Flames sending AHL goalie Justin Pogge to the Kings for Petr Kalus and AHL goalie Mark Dekanich.
The next set of moves has the club releasing farm hands Brad Leeb and Marc Methot.
And the final move of the day has the Flames sending AHL defenceman Boris Valabik to the Leafs for Dan Hinote. I really need forwards for my CPHL roster and Hinote is a good 3rd-4th line player who can also play on the pk.
GM Walsh hinted to the Calgary Sun that there is a much bigger deal in the works and the final details are currently being worked out.

Wow no offense man but I really don't get that deal with the Kings. An elite prospect for "two OK at best" prospects.

I just don't think Pogge will ever get a fair shake in Toronto, I could be wrong but I just don't see it.

Yeah I think TO is doing the right thing by actually getting goalies to fill the time until Pogge has matured enough. He seems to be a big time prospect, gotta stop letting jimmy talk you into these deals!

As he said the Leafs have dealt Dan Hinote to the Flames for Boris Valabik.
Hinote is a solid forward who played pretty well for us last season. He's good defensively and has the endurance, etc. to play decent minutes if needed. But with Paul Gaustad improving since last season and Chuck Kobasew coming to town, Hinote was the odd man out on the 3rd line and he was a tad too costly to keep for the 4th line.
We get Valabik back. He doesn't have a rating yet, and only has a few NHL games. And most people think he's built for the pre-lockout NHL and won't succeed now. Which could be true, but we hope he plays well enough to develop into a good depth defenseman.
The next vet to be moved is John Grahame. 72OV goalie is better than some teams currently have for a backup. If interested let me know.

I also don't get the Pogge deal at all. IMO he's the real deal and will be the starter for the Leafs in the future. He's already progressed by putting in real solid numbers in his 2nd season in the AHL and will now be in his 3rd season in the AHL. He's only 22 years old and IMO is a solid prospect.

I don't necessarily understand why you would want the two guys that came back for Pogge but I am not sure Pogge is good enough that it matters that much if you trade him.
I think people in Calgary tend to get a little more excited about him because he played for the Hitmen and what he did in the World Juniors but I wouldn't say he is anything more than an average prospect at best.
He is miles away from having a useful rating in the CPHL as well.
Not that Kalus and Dekanich are superstars but seems to be a pretty nothing for nothing type deal.

Yeah I don't see it really as that one-sided. Neither of the guys in the deal have actually done anything yet. All could turn out to be busts. The deal is probably better judged in a few years once they get time to play on their respective clubs.

The Kings stole Pogge. It's so tough to get goalies these days, so if you have a good young guy like Pogge, why would you trade him for a couple of nobodies? True, none of them have done anything up to this point, but Pogge definetly has the most upside.

So by that logic I should trade Stamkos for a couple of shlub prospects because none of them "have actually done anything yet". LOL

Dealing prospects is always subjective but strictly in terms of value and the status of the players involved - this one was thievery.
Reminds me of the deal you made to get Turris from Florida. Not sure how you do it. You should be a salesman.

I think Stamkos might be a little bit ahead of Pogge in terms of potential and NHL readiness, but if not I have a couple of schlubs or even real prospects to deal for him! That is if the deal with Spike falls through!

Credit where credit is due.
Jimmy is always able to stay the course and be patient while waiting for a deal that he likes (which more often than not, favours the Kings three, four-fold).
He's built a solid CPHL roster, and at the same time has been able to supplement and stock his farm teams with solid prospects.

But how many bridges must be burned, I know I always have to check to make sure the player coming my way in the offer just didn't retire

^ Well, unless I'm mistaken, I don't think he's ever traded a soon-to-be-retiree to another team for a substantial return... if ever. But I could be wrong.

I've made a deal or two with Jimmy. While he clearly owes me one (!!!), I think that he is getting the short end of the stick here. My talks with him have always been good and he is just particular in what he wants.
While I and some other GM's might fall into the spot of "making a deal just to make a deal" he doesn't. Its a very disciplined approach, and looks great on paper! I think that his ECHL squad would be phenomenal if they existed!

I don't really think any bridges should be burned. I mean it takes two people to do a deal and if the players going either way are suitable for the gm at that time in terms of need there should be no issue. Especially with GMs not involved in the trade. I guess that is just my opinion.
I value relations in the league not only with the commissioners but other GMs as well. I maintain the utmost courtesy and cordiality for every GM in this league regardless of their opinion of me.
I didn't hear from anyone after I traded Briere or Havlat on how I win every trade....this should be a non-issue and hope to add to this league as one of its more respectful and proper GMs in terms of dealing with others and mutual understanding.
