Default Anyone else have any weird tv/movie watching habits?

I just thought of this while watching an episode of CSI. It was at the part where they were showing a taped off crime scene with a body in the middle. I immediatly started looking at the extras in the background and noted how bad they were at acting normal.

Then I realized that I do this with any movie or TV show. I always go out of my way to closly moniter extras and see how badly they act.

Does anyone else have any weird habits that pertain to watching TV/movies?

If by TV you meant Oilers hockey, then yes, I have noticed that the people in the background do a terrible job.

Well, I pay a LOT of attention to the soundtrack, but not so much to "what's that song" as to "what kind of music they're using here". I also focus a lot on the transition scenes, what everybody's wearing, how are the rooms decorated and stuff like that. I guess you could sum it up that I pay a lot of attention to how each show creates it's atmosphere as opposed to actually following the plotlines. (Not that most plotlines require that I pay attention.)

I always watch the ocean to see if there is decent surf in the background. During car chase scenes I look for black tire streaks on the pavement around corners and such. You can usually tell how many takes they did to get it right. I also watch for changes from scene to scene for weather differances. clouds and such...

I watch too much TV, that's my habit.

But, whenever I watch sports, during replays, I barely watch the play itself, I always watch crowd reactions, whether it be good or bad for the home crowd, I find their reactions priceless, nothing makes me happier when I watch Canuck games when I see idiot Canuck fans throw their hands into their face in disgust.

I constantly find myself asking "now what was the director thinking when he did this scene".

Non-8 multiples of 4 if I have to, but I don't like it I tellz ya.

I watch for continuity errors, timeline errors (historical movies) and other goofs like that. Internet Movie Data Base website got me hooked on that.

i like to watch for, right handed people doing left handed things. Also, the one commercial where the guy walks to the passengers side of his car, and then throws his keys off the top of a parking garage, when his buddy asks to drive it. I don't understand why he is at his passenger side door. Things that don't make sense by where things are placed, but look better for the shot, I guess.

I always look for hilariously bad/impossible technical feats that characters perform. They make the characters speak in enough technical mumbo-jumbo so they automatically seems smart and capable of anything.

The latest example that had me laughing for days was on the latest Die Hard movie was where the Mac Ad Guy walks up to a alarm keypad and goes "hey that's my algorithim!" and presses some buttons and presto! a bunch of numbers are floating all over the screen which he plays connect the dots with and the door opens. Yeah. That's possible.

It became a bit of a joke at work and now whenever someone tries something stupid they get "hey! that's my algorithim!" yelled at them.

I PVR movies. Let them sit on the PVR for a couple of months and then erase them without watching them so I can make room to PVR more movies.

With young kids I just don't have the time to watch movies. When I do, I fall asleep within the first 30 minutes.

I also tend to pay a lot of attention to any signs or books or whatnot in a scene. I always try and see what book/newspaper/magazine it is... Not sure why.

I also try and look at the extras. Sometimes, you see some pretty good stuff. For instance, whenever I watch the movie Major League, the final scene where all the fans are out on the field, me and my brother always have to point out the extra that is walking around with his hands in the air, waiting for someone to high five him. Quite funny that all these people are out on the field, but not a single one will high five the poor guy.

I notice little things around a room. Like in Superbad where Evan (Micheal Cera) has a Danger Doom poster in his room. Or a poster for Atom and his Package in a room on an episode of The O.C.

Haha we do that too but we need to clear room to tape more "Dora's, Handy Manny and Little Enisteins"

I talk to the characters when I'm watching tv, like I think they can hear me. Usually while watching CSI or Gossip Girl. I like to tell them when they are being stupid. It's a really bad habit that drives my sister crazy.

If someone is about to be really badly embarassed, I sometimes have to change the channel as, for some reason I get embarassed by seeing other people get embarassed.. It's a really stupid reaction, but it's automatic and I don't even think about it...

I always notice the product placements, like the UPs truck in the background or the brand of computer/cell phone they are using. It drives my sister nuts when I point them out.

I tend to look at what they have placed in the frame, how they have centered on the subject, what the angle is and why, lighting, etc. It is neat to think that they have gone through a very specific decision making process to come up with what they have (especially for truly great movies).

I also look to what I do in my own photos and try to think of how to replicate the really good scenes/frames that directors manage to produce, although I tend to fail! lol

Product placements are the other big one for me too! They have gotten better and better at it so it is actually more interesting than ever, and you have to decide whether it was an accident or on purpose (I have always leaned towards 'on purpose', but some of them are so brief now it is harder to be sure!).

I have a habit of changing the channel ASAP when a character is going through an awkward moment, such as a breakup or saying something really stupid. I get embarrassed for both of us.
