Default Generation Kill

Anyone watching this series? I believe it's on Movie Central on Shaw 211 in HD. There has been 2 episodes so far, although i've only watched the first one, and I must say, this show is amazing.

I know there is a book the series is based on, and I will definitely pick that up.

I think members and former members of any Army can relate to these guys pretty well. Acronyms are the same, good to see dip make an appearance, and the general overall feel is quite realistic compared to personal experiences in the Army.

Great show. Written by the guys from the Wire (that should help convince people to check it out)

I've been watching that show and its really well done, its not just a gung ho marines going to war tyoe of series, there are some real problems that reflect reality.

The leadership in that unit is terrible. The Captain is a raving lunatic, Godmother the gravelly voiced CO is a terrible leader who is better at fire side chats then the realities of war, and the unit SM is more concerned with grooming standards then leading the war.

They have a reporter who's embedded with them from rolling stone, and I'm not sure where he stands. They don't have armor for the vehicles they don't have batteries for their night vision, and they're wearing woodland green cammo in the desert.

The best piece of this series is the banter that goes on in the unit, when I was in the amount of ruthless verbal jousting was pretty awesome and always ended in either accusations of homosexual desire or something even worse. But it was the only way to stay loose.

A very well done series, I put it up there with one of my all time favs so far in "Tour of Duty"

Actually in a lot of ways I'm proud of some of the things that the government and the forces have done to improve the protection of the troops in Afghanistan.

They dumped the crappy Iltis and picked up the G-Wagon.

They purchased new armoured vehicles.

Leased new Leopard tanks with better protection.

Improved their airlift capability.

Leased helicopter support from Poland.

among other things.

Initially when the U.S. went into Iraq there were all kinds of logistics problems that needed to be hammered out.

I read the book a few years back and loved it. Was excited when they said it was coming out as a mini-series. These guys get into some pretty nasty crap, and are surrounded by incompetent leaders. I forgot it was on last night. Thank god for PVR!

Excellent series so far. You gotta love the quality programming that HBO keeps developing.
