Actually it looks like sleet now, although when I stick my head out into it isn't all that cold, but there is white all over the streets and buildings. Expect horrible traffic if you are leaving downtown in the next little while.

Ooh that Ken0042 is on the case like a madman, moderating like a pro!

Very weird day so far. For anyone interested in seeing a tornadic supercell, load up the Environment Canada radar, click on Bethune (near Regina) and check out the cell that just went over Wynyard. It has a classic hook shape that is associated with real tornadoes (not like the dinky one near Airdrie on Sunday). Should be interesting to see what happened there.

http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/ab_e.html

I have always wondered how areas around Calgary can have warnings but NOT Calgary.

I believe most warnings are tripped automatically by radar. Since Calgary is a relatively small area it is less likely we get an auto. Also, I believe when manual warnings are issued they make real sure the threat is immediate so as not to panic people, or have them start to shut-out warnings/watches if nothing happens.
