Easy peazy!
Went to Columbia Falls last weekend, brought a dog and had absolutely no problems either way.

There's the Coutts border, about an hour south of Lethbridge. It's open 24 hours so thats a nice part about it. From my experiences I can say that if you don't get there early in the morning, you're usually in for a long wait.

The one south of Cardston is called Carway, and is only open from 7am to 11pm every day. There's also Chief Mountain which is just outside Waterton.
Coutts is the only 24/7 crossing in Alberta. I think most commercial traffic goes through Coutts, so that might mean the other crossings aren't as busy (but they're also not as well-staffed).
Here's a list of all the crossings in Alberta: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/contact/l...dex1587-e.html

I crossed at Carway when I went to Seattle in 2003. I hit the border about 11AM, and was the only car there. Quick and easy.
As Getbak says, most traffic is at Coutts.

You could also cross at Tobacco Plains north of Eureka, MT...south of Fernie, BC. Not sure what the traffic is like, but it's always been fast for us. Not really that far out of the way unless you are staying east of the mountains in your travels.

The Chief Mountain crossing near Wateron and Glaicer is a nice one. It's a little out of the way, but I never had to wait and the scenery is nice, plus I find the border agents are a lot nicer there and actually will start chit chating and perhaps a couple stories.

Is this the crossing that would put you on North Fork road heading south toward Columbia Falls right on the Western edge of Glacier?

No, this is on the eastern side of Glacier.
I'm not sure what the name of the one you are referring to is. It doesn't even show up on CBSA's website.

Not yet. In January 2009 all persons will be required to show their passport.

It may not even be open anymore. I've never used it and I'm not even sure where it goes once you enter Canada. I know this, I would love to explore the area north of Red Meadow Creek road (Montana side) and into Canada. The North Fork is one of my favorite places on earth and I'd love to go farther north!
