Default Men's gyms?

So... I want to start working out but I've never really been to a gym. Until now I've been blessed with a metabolism that works like a clock, but now I want to tone up and lose about 10lbs.

What kind of prices am I looking at with contracts and such to go to a normal gym to get fit? I dont want to come out looking like a beefcake... or be surrounded by them while i work my pale marshmallowy torso?

Also, I want something that has resources like public (just not personal... $$$) trainers with a somewhat casual progress monitoring system. I don't even know where to start on this stuff, but I have a feeling I need some cardio action.

I seriously know nothing. I'm sure my post illustrates that. Thanks in advance!

There are several options for gyms in the city. If you want, feel free to PM me and I can help you out. I have or do train at several different gyms, so I can help guide you to a good place with value.

Well, where abouts in the city do you live/work? The first thing is to pick one that is easy for you to go to. Either close to home, work, or inbetween.

Young man, there's no need to feel down.

Young man, there's a place you can go.

I believe there was a personal trainer on this board peddling his services a little while ago.

Maybe he can help

I actually do personal training on the side as well(for fun though, not in it for the money). So I have first hand experience with most gyms here in the city. Like I said, PM me with where you live, price point, etc and I can maybe guide you.

Like wookie mentioned, having a gym that is convenient is key. Getting to the gym every day can be difficult with work and family commitments. Making it as easy as possible for your self is important when you want to stick to your routine. Most gyms will let you try them out for free. Take your stuff, stop in and tell them your looking to join a gym. They will probably give you a tour and let you work out.

I would also highly recommend a personal trainer. I worked out for years without one. I lost weight and put on a lot of muscle. At the same time I also screwed up my shoulder with poor form on some exercises. Also I was afraid to perform certain exercises because I didn't want to injure myself, squats and dead lifts for example. For about the last two years I was also in a big rut or plateau.

My wife signed me up for a personal trainer that uses their own facility. Basically it is a gym but you can't just buy a membership and workout. You can only workout there if you have an appointment with a trainer. I think they are up to seven trainers now. It was the best money I have ever spent on health and fitness. In 3 months I lost 10.5 inches and only lost 5 pounds. I feel and look great.

When you find a gym. Ask about personal trainers. You may have to spend a couple hundred to get started. But it will be well worth the money.

What I want to know is why this thread is titled “Men’s gyms?”

Do you want like a no girls allowed type of thing? Personally getting to see hot girls work out is half the reason I go too the gym

If this was 10-15 years ago I would have suggested Stu Hart's basement.
