Icon44 Busy Devils Deal Again

Well, the wheeling and dealing continues for the New Jersey Devils, whose fans will have lots of new jerseys to have to personalize for the upcoming year.

To New Jersey:

D Chris Phillips
NJ 1st 2009
1.25M in Cheese

To Anaheim:

D Dennis Wideman
Tor 1st 2009
Det 3rd 2009
ECHLer Greg Nemisz

Ravi was bugging me about Nemisz from the moment the Flames selected him. My honest assessment is that this is a pretty even deal for each side but of course I never exactly think I got pwned on a deal. Glad to have my 1st back so that I can comfortably tear this frankenstein's monster apart if it doesn't perform well.

Our top defensive pairing at the moment is now Phillips-Souray, which is far better than where we left off last season. Hopefully Sarich re-rates well and we end up with a decent Top 3 defensemen.

Well this is a move that the ducks feel will benefit both organizations. It is one of those rare win-win deals.

Heading into talks we felt with Chara, Regehr, Ballard, Phillips, Niskanen, Oduya and Finger on the Dcore, 1 of the top 4 could go. We wanted some cap flexibility so the odd man out was Phillips. He is one of the best defensive dmen being rated 79OV with a 78DF but with his 7 mill salary and the role he was going to take we decided it was best to part ways.

Coming back is the underrated Denis Wideman who played #2 minutes, averaging over 25 minutes a game. He also posted an impressive + 11 with 13 goals and 36 points. He should fit in nicely paired with Regehr on our second pairing.

It sucks to lose the nJ 1st 09, but now the GMs can officially be friends again, which does carry some value. Nemisz is a Flames 1st and we all know how much this Ducks GM loves anything associated with the flames.

Seems like a trade that works for both sides. To think I moved Wideman last year because I didn't think the horse shoe up his arse thing had much more time left until it blew up and he went back to being a defensive liability with marginal offensive abilities. D'oh!

A very good deal, it'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

I can see it working out for both teams. With the Devil's I know I'll regret not latching on to Phillips when he was available and will definitely add some stability to you Defence by adding a cornerstone.

Ducks, sometimes less is more and with the deletion of Phillips it might add a little more space for your big guns on D to be more effective. The addition by subtraction trades are a hard one to make but in a salary cap world they really are a important factor.

This is a good trade for both sides. Ravi needed some cap room and got a good return for Wideman and Nemisz.

Steve got a great player with a DF of 78 and that is worth a lot in this game.

Great job by both sides to make an even deal that fits with the team's needs.
