Default CP Book Club - MEETING

The winner of the vote for next book was:

The Cunning Man - Robertson Davies

So the next to last step is to pick a time, date, and location for the meeting. I'm thinking that, because it is summer, people are not going to want to kill a weekend, nor is it going to fly during Stampede, so l am proposing the following choices:

Wednesday, July 16 @ 7:00 PM

Thursday, July 17 @ 7:00 PM

Monday, July 21 @ 7:30 PM

Tuesday, July 22 @ 7:00 PM

Note that these are sufficiently far into the future that I would hope you would be able to block the time off if you intend to attend, but please vote for your preferred time/date, and feel free to put in a write-in ballot if none of those strike your fancy.

As far as WHERE we meet goes, I personally am suggesting Brewster's on 11th Ave and 8th Street, as it is reasonably central and large enough that we should have no trouble getting a decent table, as was an issue last time. (It's also close enough to my place that I can walk ) However, in this case people should just make suggestions and we'll go with whatever place seems to be most popular while still being suitable.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Read the book! You can go HERE to see the Penguin reading guide for the book, which may help you if you are not used to thinking critically about what you are reading, although certainly it is acceptable to just read it and be ready to discuss it if that feels too much like schoolwork to you. Other than that, all that is needed is the pleasure of your company, no dues, fees, or other requirements.

I am good for those times as long as there's no slo-pitch then. And I didn't vote for that book, but I will read it anyway.

Same with me. I have other commitments on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I could still make it given that it's only one day.

Tuesday the 22nd doesn't work for anyone on the Central CP Slo-Pitch team... so me and REDVAN. I will be picking up the book today potentially.

Just reading in the Herald from a day or two ago about a new biography of Robertson Davies. It mentions "Fifth Business" as being one of the best Canadian novels, ever.

I say this because I would have recomended that book instead of "The Cunning Man", but I thought the fact of it being the start of a trilogy would be inappropriate.

So I hope those new to him, would try "Fifth Business" as well.

ps Redvan or anyone else, if you need a copy of "The Cunning Man" I can supply it. Or "Fifth Business" for that matter.
