Default LF: Baby/Pet Fencing...

We're getting a puppy next weekend and we are looking for a fence of some sort to contain the puppy in the kitchen while we are away from the house. We don't want one of those gates that blocks doorways as our house has a very open layout and we'd need one 15 feet wide. What we are looking for is a small fence that is completely enclosed, or at least 3 sides that is only 2-3 feet tall.

If anyone has one that they no longer use or knows where we can find one let me know!

Maybe try Petcetera.
I thinking about buying a metal dog cage, they work wonders.

I would really recommend crate training. I found with my pup, although I thought I preferred to have the little guy run around the kitchen, it does nothing for their house training. The pup will pick a spot in such a large area and use it every day when you are gone for his potty.

Now, that being said, you also have to recognize that a pup can't go more than 3-4 hours without going to the bathroom, so crate or not, you have to be prepared to come home and lunch and let him outside.

We are aware of what it takes to raise a puppy thanks. We're not going into it blind. Obviously we have to come home, but we don't think its particularly fair to the puppy to be locked in a cage for 7-8 hours a day.

You could try Kaz's Kids (Deerfoot Outlet mall), I believe they have the kid play fence enclosures (octagon fence for corraling the little ones!).

Cool. I think the most important thing is you have a plan for how you want to tackle it

How about some of that Plastic Lattice stuff ?? Comes in approx 4x8 foot sheets.

Two sheets of that and some small hinges and you could build it to whatever length you need.

Probably cheaper than a store bought as well.

A dog is a den animal. It finds comfort in small enclosed spaces. I agree, as a puppy, it needs out every 3-4 hours, but as an adult, a dog in a den for 7-8 hours is not bad at all. My dog is in her den about 8 hours a day while i'm at work, later in the evening, after our walk, she likes to go lay down in her den. To say a den is unfair for a dog is dependant on how you view your dog. I certainly don't think a dog den is bad, in fact, it's the reason my dog is as well behaved as she is.
