Default It's official: Canada shut out of 2016 playoffs

Not-so-breaking news: Sens officially eliminated from playoff race.

First time since 1970.

Now I can enjoy the playoffs without having to cheer against every Canadian team.

I really dislike most of the Canadian teams anyways so I don't really care about this. I wish Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto nothing but bad things.

My Roberto Luongo Florida Jersey just came in. I may cheer on the Panthers in the playoffs for Hudler, Bobby Lu and Jagr.

If they're in, I might passively "cheer" for the Flyers. I like the way they play.

It really is amazing how inferior management of Canadian teams are compared to the majority of American teams. This is no accident as look at recent tire fire management in Vancouver (Benning), Edmonton (everyone), Calgary (Sutter, Feaster, owners), Winnipeg (Chevy, ownership group), Toronto (almost everyone), Ottawa (Murray is very average at best), Montreal (goaltender the only person holding the organization together). Calgary, Toronto may be moving in the right direction and I suppose a healthy Price can carry the Habs but it's not out of the question that Canada gets shut out in 2017 as all the teams have major question marks.

This couldn't be any less relevant.

It's like the last year the Ducks won the cup and I found myself in Anaheim for work and had a Ducks fan razzing me about how Canadian teams don't win the cup anymore.

"19 of the Ducks 23 skaters were Canadian..."

(Silence)

- - -

With the rivalries between Canadian fan bases, there are next to no Canadian teams I could stomach seeing win the cup anyway, so this isn't bad news.

I second this. The only Canadian team that I have no strong feelings for are the Sens. Hate the rest.

Aside from Ottawa who only slightly annoys me, and to a lesser extent Toronto who just plain annoys me, I loathe and despise the other Canadian teams. This is a good thing.

Another positive is we won't have to hear about "Canada's team" and we won't have to deal with that one annoying casual fan we all have on social media who cheers for any Canadian team come playoffs. Screw being Canada's team. No NHL team represents my country.

It is pretty crazy that none of the 7 teams made it in a league where more than half the teams qualify lol

It even looks like the former Canadian teams (Colorado and Arizona) won't be making the playoffs this year.

Also, the arenas in Buffalo and Detroit both sit next to bodies of water that border Canada. Buffalo is going to miss the playoffs, and with 5 games left, Detroit is outside a playoff spot.

It will get really weird in a couple of weeks when the Hurricanes announce that they're moving to Quebec City.

Mendes is two days late on this news. The Senators were eliminated on Monday evening after the Flyers defeated the Jets in a shootout.
