Default Lil' Wayne - The Carter III

The much hyped, most anticipated album* of the year finally dropped yesterday (June 10). With all of the leaks, the mixtape-DJ tirade two weeks ago and the over-abundance of cameos from Wayne, all is forgotten and this one definitely holds it's own. Superior to the Carter I & II albums. Straight fire, all the way thru - I'm impressed.

Just wanted to see if anyone else picked it up.

* - Aside from Nas' "Ni--er" album which is now going to be "Untitled"

I didn't realize it was out, thanks for the heads up.
I'll get it tonight.

Wow someone dropped it, did it break? I hope there was a backup somewhere because it's the most anticipated album*.

Just not sure what it is about the guy, but just don't like his music. But maybe I'll give it a shot.

The guy is on pace to sell more than 900 000 records down in the States during the opening week.... biggest debut of the year (until Coldplay drops next week). It's kind of ironic that this is the album that does it for him though... seeing as I think it's his worst. The production and beats are great, but i don't like his rapping on this record. His flow has gotten lazy and he's using that voice alteration thing a little bit too much for my liking. You see glimpses of what he's capable of (ex. A Millie), but he's inconsistent this time around.

That said, good on him for his breakthrough. The guy's recording process is legendary (he recorded something like 600+ songs for this album over 2 years)... so he put in the work. Good on him.

That said, I'm definitley looking forward to the new Nas album.... that first single is the best record he's put out in 10 years IMO. That should be a lock for hip-hop album of the year. Or the new T.I. record (ever since his whole arrest situation... he's finally writing about real stuff rather than bragging.... if he can deliver an entire album like that... look out!).

Which single are you talking about? - "Be A N---er Too", "N.I.-.-.E.R." or "Black President"? They're all so dope. Did you grab the mixtape with Green Lantern that was released on Monday? If you haven't, they're all on there and it's on some next level .

I was actually talking about "Hero." It's a really, really different sound for Nas, but I like it. It's nice to hear him on an uptempo beat for a change, its different. Granted, Polow Da Don produced the track and I think the guy is one of the best beatmakers around right now..... so i might be a bit biased (although the third verse on that track is Illmatic-esque).

But all the tracks you listed are real solid too. Should be a good album. Looking forward to it.

Sold over 1 million copies the first week.

Last artist to do so since 50 Cent in 2005.
