Kids can be cruel.

They should have used the cellphones to call for help not to film the fight and make inane txtspk commentary.

i don't know why kids can't scrap it out 1 on 1 anymore. for some reason they feel they need to bring their friends or knives.

Fights were a weekly event when I was in high school. Every week there'd be some kind of match up, usually two guys. There was a pretty much designated area for the fights too. The difference I see these days, is there's no one-on-one fights anymore. There's always some lameass who brings his friends to help him out and they gang up for the beat down. Gone are the days where you'd scrap it out mano-a-mano and then go on your way. Now kids gotta worry about the friends jumping in at the very least or weapons being pulled at worst.

I blame the lack of individual responsibility, and the need to always find someone to blame.

Laugh. I love the repeated use of the term "cat-fighting". Weren't they just fighting-fighting?

Take out the YouTube and the cel phones and this isn't exactly a new story. Girls occasionally went after it even when I was a kid in the '30s.

You'd think the possibility of ending up on the Internet would dissuade kids from doing this kind of thing. It'd be bad enough if you had to explain to your parents that you "got in a fight", but imagine sitting there with mom and dad while they watch you ganging up on another kid, screaming and clawing and kicking and cat-fighting.

It would be kind of an awkward moment.

Weekly? What'd you do go to a girls school miss? Don't like what I said, wanna fight about it.

In our school it was like main event boxing. There was a undercard at lunch, usually a spontaneus fight between two mouth breathers who ended up showing off the latest in slapfoo, and then crying on their way to the Principles office.

After school was the main event, this was usually to settle some grudge that had been building for days, the day of the fight it was like a wrestling match with confrontations in the hallway, outside of the bathroom and the lunch room, that always ended with "I'll see you after school in the part across the street"

Then after school the crowds would gather, there would be the two fighters and friends eyeing each other to make sure that there was no jumping. There was a certain code of honor too.

No kicking the guy when he was down. Only sissy's go for the privates, and no help from the outside. Other then that everything goes and you fought until you couldn't fight anymore.

After that the feud was over, the fighters didn't really want to fight each other anymore and would either gain a grudging respect, or they would avoid each other like the plague. But somehow they always ended up drunk at the after grad acting like they were best friends in the whole world.

With the swarming, and knifings and crap that goes on today. Kids aren't tough, they're cowards and losers.

What you guys are talking about is mostly guy fights. They fight then forget about it.

Girl fights are insane.

I could care less about jr high fights, I saw a lot of them and was in a couple of them back in the day, as far as I'm concerned... I blame puberty.

But...

Schools in the U.S. have responded to such videos -- as well as unflattering images of teachers -- by banning cellphones during classroom hours.

The phone stays in the locker, or else.

There is no similar policy in the Calgary public system, and students are allowed to carry phones at all times.
There should be a strict no cell phone policy in all public schools in Canada. I know if I was a teacher I'd be infuriated if half of my class was just sitting there texting each other.

I know that during my last few semesters of University the same case has been made about laptops.

Professors are complaining that students are just on their laptops chatting on MSN or surfing the web and not paying attention.

Fixed that for ya, but I have to disagree, girls who fight DO pull all the dirty tricks out, but there is rarely as much blood compared to a good ol' fashioned dude fight !
