Default The guy the Oilers drafted

The Edmonton Oilers made one selection in the 2008 CPHL entry draft, after frantically offloading their 4th and 5th round picks in an effort to get to bed at a somewhat reasonable hour in Australia.

With the 27th pick, GM icarus selected Russian forward Kirill Petrov of Ak Bars Kazan in the RSL.

Although listed in the 100th spot by THN, Central Scouting rated him the 2nd best European skater, Red Line had him as the 4th best forward in the draft, and ISS listed him as the 17th best prospect.

Scouting reviews rave about him. He is 6'3" 200lbs, a power forward with a great combination of skating, muscle, and hands. He was the forward of the tournament at this years U18 championships. There are some concerns about his defensive game, and perhaps his likelihood of playing in North America but we are not too worried about that. He sounds like a great prospect and we were please to nab him with the 27th pick.

I made the mistake of going Russian heavy on my first draft a couple of years ago. None of them have even come close to North America. I hope for your case this guy aspires to play in the "best" league in the world.

Kirill Petrov is a talent and I would bet the reason he is ranked low.. Is the real problem getting the Russian Players over to North America.

I bet Krill falls somewhat in this weekends draft, which is too bad for the player as some NHL teams won't draft a Russian player (except for the top ranked guy).

It'll be interesting to see where Petrov does end up in the NHL draft. CSB had most of the top European skaters as Russians this year.

The last CPHL draft I participated in I drafted four Russians, two of which are playing in the NHL right now (Enver Lisin and some guy named Malkin or something like that).

If he's got the talent that people are saying he does then the team that chooses him will do everything to get him over here. I read a report on NHL.com from the guy who has been following the draft from Ottawa and he seems to indicate Petrov seems very excited about the whole thing and loves to talk about Ovechkin and that Malkin guy. I think it is promising.

I dunno man. Check out his photo from Bob Mckenzie's list:

Looks like he went to the "Andrei Medvedev House of Munchs" for his training.
