				 The Calgary Font

Calgary now has it's own font to use. Wow do feel as special as I do? It makes me feel just as important as Geneva.
Here is a link to a story on it.

Here is a link to the font itself . It sells for $99. I guess it is not cheap just like the city.

Not surprising, given Veer is a Calgary-based company (or at least they have an office in Calgary). It would be big news if a company like Adobe made a Calgary font.

I like it! Not enough to buy it for $99, but it's a good-looking font.

It wasn't created, designed or even enlisted by Veer. It was made entirely by Alejandro Paul (an internationally acclaimed typeface and graphic design artist). He lives and works in Argentina, and was here in 2007 to give a speech at the UofC.

He's stated on his website that he created this font as a way of honoring his visit to Calgary, and says that he was inspired to create it after seeing the Welcome to Calgary sign outside the airport.

Veer is just the company currently selling it. It will be interesting to see if it gets picked up like the Chicago font, etc.

It's all good.
Here's a quick sample I made using a test engine on his site. I had to SS it and then did some rough work to get rid of the ugly test colours.

I actually don't mind it.

That's a GREAT font. But, I agree with others: it's not worth my $99 to install on my computer.

Now that I can actually see it like that. It looks really nice. Either that, or Calgarypuck written with any font is gonna look nice.

Is that m the same m as in Mac's' logo? That'd be funny if that was his inspiration, given that a Macs can describe the various locations around downtown (hooker Macs, crack Macs, cabbie Macs, etc).

Geez, it looks like the hand-painted price signs you used to find in Calgary discount stores years ago.

While I get what you're saying, when I read this, I don't think "Verdana"... If I think of what a Calgary font should look like, I think he's got it.
