Marine throws puppy off a cliff
I saw this on the news yesterday, and with all the animal lovers around here, I'm surprised no one has posted it:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/06/11/marine.puppy/
http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/4346...oit_puppy.html
Winning the hearts of Iraqis since 2003... Pretty disgusting act. I wouldn't be too terribly sad if those marines come face-to-face with an RPG or IED.

I was sure there was a thread about this when it actually happened. Or is this incident #2?

It doesn't come up when I search for the relevant key words.
Regardless, the marines were disciplined yesterday, so that is new.

It's regarding the same incident as before, it's just news since they are now disciplined.
Irregardless of the videos age, no matter how many times I look at it I'm always disgusted.

Good to see the Marines hire the best, most stable people available. I just don't understand how someone could find amusement in that.
On top of that, how can anyone be so stupid as to let someone video tape them doing that? Apparently some people just haven't learned.

Lets not paint with too wide of a brush here, those two are not fit to be marines, they're an embarressment to the corp. But there are a majority of outstanding Marines, we just don't hear about them.

I agree with you that these types of guys probably don't make the majority, but it sure makes you wonder about their selection process when not only do people who are not fit to marines filter through, but people who aren't even fit to breathe the same air get through. It's one thing to miss someone who might not be able to handle the duties, but it's another to miss people who are complete sociopaths.
I also can't help but think that when things like this are caught on tape, it probably means there are numerous times that it goes by unnoticed. The fact that these marines seemed pretty comfortable doing it and taping it suggests to me that it wasn't that out of the ordinary.

No recruiting process is perfect, and life in a combat zone can change you, theres no test for singling out people who are not fit to "breath the same air as you". As far as the sociopath side of the argument, there's no tried and true needle test out there.

I think it is a bit out of the ordinary, when you consider how many marines there are. However I could be wrong, look at how many people were involved in the Canadian Airborne scandal, and they were all in the same unit.

I'm pretty sure the marine didn't mistake the puppy for Turkeys!
having 2 dogs myself, and we as a race should be reflected upon on how we treat others, if i was there in that division i would have drop that mofo with a single shot to his head, a more caring result that what he just did to that puppy.

I've seen another internet forum debunk the video. The dog is clearly already dead, the off camera soldier makes the sound effects. That part of the world regards dogs the same way we regard rats and mice, wild dog packs are common and troublesome.
Given the horrible things these people have seen, throwing a dead dog off a cliff is just blowing off some steam to these guys.

I really doubt it it, watched HDnet when they had afilmncrew with them, they shot an Iraq's family dog for the fun of it, the family was just standing there....the tears even from the dad was emotional... the reporter even said the dog was just standing there with it's owner and the marine killed it as they drove by.....

Seeing as how the marines haven't even debunked it, I'm not sure how much I would put into "another internet forum".

I had heard the same thing and looking at it again I think your right. A sick joke, but not as sick as it would be if the dog was alive... but the troops see dead people and mutilated bodies all the time, the fact that they have words for bodies burnt by the heat from helicopter rounds (Crispy Critters) etc... means they have been desensitized to things the average person or civilian can't imagine.
I think the real lesson here for marines and everyone really is stop video taping yourself doing stupid/immoral/illegal things people... This includes celebrities having sex...
**Edit**

On top of that, the thrower has been given the boot and his buddy disciplined. I really don't think the dog was already dead.
