Default Tories Modify Wikipedia Article On Jim Prentice

Government buffing Prentice's Wikipedia entry

Quote:
The government has been editing Minister of Industry Jim Prentice's Wikipedia entry, removing mentions of the recent copyright-reform controversy and hailing the minister as personifying "experience, confidence and competence, ability and capability."
Quote:
Another statement that was deleted, this time on May 29, was: "The minister is planning on introducing a bill on June 5 2008 and is not communicating with the public or the press on the bill. The minister is being heavily influenced by foreign publishers and distributors."
Quote:
The glowing comments about Prentice were added on May 29, Geist said, and included claims that "Prentice has been praised for his strong management of the Industry portfolio. He has been dubbed the unofficial deputy prime minister, and is seen as the strongest Minister in the Harper government."
The more I hear about the Tories, the more I think the Liberals were not all that bad after all.

Indeed. Editing Wikipedia is waaaaaaay worse than killing soldiers by giving them inferior equipment.

Its these little things that just make them look really weird if anything else, especially their communications strategy. Maybe if the Tories could actually effectively communicate their policy to the press they wouldn't have to resort to such ridiculous resorts like editing Wikipedia.

Hilarious.

Stupid move.....and I'm not impressed at all by the Conservatives by it or the dumb copyright legislation they 'might' introduce....but I still think they're doing a better job than the Liberals.

Yeah I'm sure the liberals would never do this . It's just part of being a politician, and the PR machines that follow them around.

Wikipedia is open for editing by anyone, so its not as though they did something technically wrong. Hell my own entry about myself is just as flattering and I'm gonna keep it that way

I don't really care. Like Azure said better at the moment than the Liberals, who seem to be getting paid these days to find any controversy they can, instead of being an effective opposition. In fact i am kinda annoyed lately with all the useless crap surronding Ottawa..is there not more important things for our goverment and media to be doing...

Companies/corporations/governments editing Wikipedia are nothing new either. This is actually fairly common, and when you go to block an IP user there, you see a list of government IPs (American and Canadian) to be conscious of when blocking. the US government has been caught doing this a few times already. And, as far as most other political parties go, I'd bet that the only difference between the Liberals and Conservatives is that the Liberals haven't been caught yet.

lol to suggest editing wikipedia is some sort of scandal is pretty hilarious. Dude it's wikipedia. That thing thats open to anyone to edit.

Reading the article, the guy is mad his opinionated views were removed and replaced by someone elses opinionated views? Musta been one slow news day at the ole CBC.

Quote:
Among the information removed by Industry Canada employees were some paragraphs including speculation
Isn't speculation supposed to be removed from wiki?

This is pretty minor stuff. I don't like the conservatives but this isn't exactly scandalous. On a side-note, Prentice has always been one of the few Conservatives I've actually liked ... guess it's because he's more of a progressive conservative than a reformer.

Hmm... stealing hundreds of millions from taxpayers, and providing woefully inadequate equipment to our soldiers or... editing a wikipedia page!

You're right, them Liberals are looking good!

Besides "cleaning" the article, did you see how it was revised? The anonymous editor added the following:

Quote:
Prentice has been praised for his strong management of the Industry portfolio. He has been dubbed the unofficial deputy prime minister, and is seen as the strongest Minister in the Harper government. He is widely praised in both political and private circles, as he personifies experience, confidence and competence, ability and capability.
Bwahahaha

BTW, the article has now been locked to prevent anonymous edits.

I fail to see how that is false, especially with the rumors that Prentice will replace Flaherty (Minister of Finance).

Good to know the "unofficial Deputy Prime Minister" is so open and transparent in his approach to governing Canada.

That shouldn't be sarcastic.

Yeah, you're right. Bill C-61 and all the public consultations are exactly how the process was promised when the CPC were in opposition.
