Ring Road Info Session (Cougar Ridge, Wentworth, Aspen, Springbank Hill, etc.)
These things don't get much publicity, so I am just posting to inform anyone living in the above communities to let them know about an info session this week regarding the rarely talked about West leg of the ring road. Sounds like this project may get green lighted soon.
(Springbank Hill residents can take comfort in the fact that now they have something real to complain about other than low income housing.)
See below for details of the info session as well as a map of the route.

I already see one thing I don't like, no way to get off Old Banff Coach Road, on to the Ring Road.

So the ring road basically goes to glenmore trail then? I thought I saw an info session for down in bridlewood today and was concerned it would link up with the 22x but I guess that was incorrect.
EDIT:
Here is the long term plan.

For the Cougar Ridge - Sprinbank leg, it will be interesting to see what the reaction is as this will be a huge killer of property values along the affected route where, in addition to the added noise, there will be homes that currently have mountain views which will no longer have them... all without any benefit to people living in the area as, if anything, it will bring out of town commuters onto Bow Trail and 17th Ave and make downtown commuting times worse.
At least in Bridlewood you are getting a much needed second exit route from the community.
"Luckily" for me, I don't have a mountain view and don't live directly adjacent to the TUC.

Yes, people will lose their mountain views. As will I when the SE leg of the ring road comes through.
However when I bought my house years ago I had a look at the plans and noticed that I would lose my view. I have also planted a few small trees that will hopefully be nice big ones by the time the Ring Road comes by my house- and those trees should help filter the noise a little bit.
It all comes down to people needing to do their homework when they plop down 100's of thousands of dollars on a house. This project has been on the books for ~40 years. Just because a person has lived there for X years without it happening doesn't mean it was never going to happen.

Are they making the western portion as curvy as possible? Geez, throw in some nice straight sections.

Thanks McMack. I thought about going to the meeting, but not sure I will. Seems the people on the west side will be there to complain about the route. I was most interested in the interchanges at Sarcee/Glenmore, and 69th.
I think someone else put up some maps a while back (maybe Ken0042) that showed more detail of the interchanges themselves.
So if the ring road turns south at Sarcee, what happens with 37th st/Glenmore trail?

People should have known better, but that still won't stop them from complaining. To be fair, the west leg had previously been listed for construction on a 2039 time horizon.
I've also planted many trees in my back yard and I don't even live directly against the corridor. I think I'm even known as the crazy tree guy on our street. Meantime, none of the people who actually live against the TUC have planted anything in their back yards.

Actually if you click on CJ's link above, it takes you to a general page. Then click on the section of the ring road that interests you, and you will have a page with all the maps in greater detail.

HWY 8 needs to be twinned to HWY 22 - too many fatalities there from people trying to pass.
Will sound barriers be erected along HWY 8 to the City Limits?
I will be able to get to Millarville a lot faster when this is done - could cut 20 minutes off drive time. This might increase property values in Turner Valley area?

From a person who lives a fair distance away from the city, is the ring road really going to help? How much time will it cut down coming from the west on the number 1 to the NW side of town (Crowfoot)? All of my family live in Citadel and Bowness, and from going to Calgary 4 times a year I have really founds some decent shortcuts to get around, I hardly doubt I would use the ring road, to get the Semis off of 16th it would be great though.

Having grown up in Winnipeg I can tell you that having the Perimiter Highway there was great. You are correct in that many times it won't save all that much time for the average person as you now have a greater distance to travel. But being able to cruise with no stop and go traffic makes it a much easier drive. Plus it takes some of the stress off our already crowded roads. You mentioned getting the semis of 16th ave- it will also get some of the tourists who are just passing through off 16th ave, and anybody coming from Hwy 2 going onto the Trans Canada ( or vice versa) from having to enter the city and add to our traffic just to go from Okotoks to Banff. It will also help get the semis off Deerfoot.
And that's just the non-peak traffic savings. Its once you get into rush hour periods where it will be quite the savings. People travelling to and from the Airport will now be able to just go around instead of going through.
It also adds a new series of alternate routes. For example if people going home from downtown to the south (Midnapore, McKenzie, etc) hear that SB Deerfoot is close due to some major accident, they can head east or west to the ring road and swing back around that way.

What are the chances a truck leaving foothills industrial will travel south to the ringroad (22X) then south of city, then north on ring road to Sarcee/Glenmore. And vice versa, with eastbound traffic from the west going to Foothills, etc.
Always fun to sit way back of 37th on Glenmore and see two trucks side by side blocking both lanes.
It would make my drive on Glenmore a little nicer.
Lastly, is anyone going to this meeting, and willing to post details?

So if I am reading this right, the Glenmore/Sarcee intersection will become three and a half interchanges? That's gonna be impressive...

I'm glad that I'm not the only one wondering about this. I live in Somerset and can't really see using the proposed ring road for places that I need/want to go unless its an absolute last resort.

I live in Somerset too and I can't wait for that thing to be built. If it takes 10-15% of the current traffic off of MacLeod then it's a good thing. Plus getting to the NW and parts of the SW sucks, this piece of road would remedy all of that. Calaway Park, COP, Optimist, getting to HWY 1A to get to Banff, the Foothills and Childrens hospitals.... it will rule!

No doubt, but when my fiancee was pregenant she insisted on delivering at the Foothills because of the NICU unit there. Turned out to be a good choice because we needed their help. But damn that's a hard place to get to from the deep SW.

I got kids and they love it. Cheap too if you have season passes.

Never went there before, but we got a family pass this year. It was much better than I thought it would be. Bring your own lunch though.
