Default Hotels in Jasper

Seeing as this subject has come up for Banff in the past- and with some great recommendations, I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for hotels in Japser.

Checking the main travel websites most seem to be well over $200, or for some reason they seem to think that a stay in Jasper is not complete without commuting an hour to Hinton to sleep.

I was really hoping to find something in the $150 range or lower. Does anybody know of some secret place that works for them?

Stayed here a few years back with the girlfriend. Just outside of town, really nice setting along the Athabasca River:

Whistler's Inn might have OK pricing. All the Mountain Park properties will probably be over $200 which are like 5 of them.

That one does look exactly like it would fit the bill. Unfortunately I'm too late to book for the long weekend.

I appreciate all the suggestions so far guys. If anybody has more, please keep them coming!

Went to Jasper this April on my honeymoon. Stayed at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. VERY good, very good food, but way out of your price range. The Bison steak (or whatever fancy name they had for it) and Prime Rib meals was to die for (almost didn't need a knife to cut the meat), but also ~$50 for the entree alone.

Stayed one night at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre. Hotel was modern, clean, and overall pretty good. That said, the food at the hotel restaurant was not good. Perhaps bad timing on our part, as it was the first night of a new menu. Cedar Plank fish was literally fish on a plank of Cedar, and the fish was barely big enough to get any actual food off of it. Other food that we ordered, and that others in the restaurant ordered, was not good, not cooked well, etc.

DO NOT stay at the Athabasca Hotel. It was built in the early 1900s, and still looks like it. Even the non-smoking rooms still smell like smoke.

Hotels are kind of hit and miss. I'd definitely recommend looking for those that have an AMA/CAA Approved logo advertised.

just a few minutes outside of Jasper, still in the park of course, just not in town, on Pyramid Lake, are condos and townhouses, very reasonable, nice setting too.

Beckers is great. Their staff are really fun and good people.

We also quite liked the Bear Hill Lodge. Little stand alone cabins with seperate bedrooms and a fireplace. You can take your dogs too if you want.

We'll go back

hahaha! The Atha-B. Stayed there for a week in '89 for a ski trip, good times! But yeah, kind of a dump.
