TORONTO (CP) - The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder Shea Hillenbrand on Wednesday from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for pitcher Adam Peterson.

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/news_story.asp?id=110984

It's been a busy week for the Jays. On Tuesday, the team signed free-agent pitcher Scott Schoeneweis to a $5.25-million US, two-year deal while reliever Billy Koch signed a $900,000 one-year deal Monday.

Hillenbrand, 29, hit .310 last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks with 15 home runs and 80 RBIs in 148 games

Not unexpected, but Hillenbrand is one of the most overrated players in the game, imo. He's an average hitter, but doesnt get on base enough for his average, nor does he have a ton of power.

I'm just glad we didnt pay a huge price for him, though I'd just have soon held onto the pitching prospect.

I think Hillenbrand / Hinskie will share the DH role. It should be interesting to see how the team will play.

Yah, I agree for the most part. Didn;t Hillenbrand ,lose his job to Chad Tracey in Arizona last year (yeah, I know, Chad Who...?)?

Also, doesn't Hillenbrand kind of go against JP's preachings if you will - i.e. his OBP isn't nearly what you would think JP would be looking for, etc?

Interesting move nonetheless.

I hear that they still have a handful of millions to spend yet?

I didn't ever think that Shea Hillebrand was rated let alone overrated.

I think it is a good move for the Jays. They traded away a guy it seems they didn't have in their plans to get a guy that has decent power and the ability to drive in runs.

The offense of the Jays does not look all that strong and to add a guy like Hillebrand will only help.

While he may not fit into JP's perfect player model the Jays have to make the moves they can within the budget they have.

Who's currently penciled in to play first base for the Jays next year? I thought Hinske would move there and that Hillebrand would take over at third. What does their lineup look like anyway?

Koskie at 3rd.

Hillenbrand/Hinske = 1st/DH...?

OF = Rios, Wells, Cat (could also DH?), Johnson....

Getting a bit kind of off topic here, but still related to the Jays (its nice to have a group that will chat about the Jays).

Every so often I hear of a Hinske for Austin Kearns rumour, of the Reds....thoughts? I thought that we (meaning the Jays) would be ripping the Reds off on this one, but who knows now that I have looked up Kearns stats....

I think Koskie will get most of the games at 3rd. Hinskie / Hillenbrand will share 1st. Hillenbrand will also DH and play 3rd. I like the signing. Now the Jays need more pitching but I think they are out of money.

Aaah, I forgot about Koskie. Yeah, Hinske is either on the block, or he'll be seeing some games at DH.

I agree we should chat more about the Jays. I am a huge fan of the Jays. I attended my first game last year. As for Hinskie the Jays have tried but I don't think anyone will take Eric.

I think the Jays would easily win that deal. Kearns is a guy that has 40/100 potential for a long time and could easily go over those numbers in a few seasons.

Hinske seems to be a .270/20/75 guy to me at best.

See, this is what I think as well....I don't know where these rumours come from.

Now, that I would protest at all in getting Kearns for Hinske (that would be sweet!), but I just don't understand how someone can even think of a rumour like this...although, you never know with Cincy - they just gave Milton that STUPID money deal...
