Exclamation Help! Know a good plumber?!

Hoping some of you out there can help!

Anyone have a plumber that they trust?

Has anyone ever used Pete The Plumber?

We're having some issues with the sink and dishwasher backing up as well I suspect that there may be a leak in another pipe that is in the floor as we have some hardwood that is warping but we can't see any standing water anywhere (there are water stains in the ceiling in the basement.

I don't know any good plumbers in Calgary but, I would suggest you check your air vent on the roof to see if it is plugged. I've seen them get bent over by snow and ice in the winter and all of a sudden your sink is acting like it is plugged up or something.

I have to shout out to one of our new customers Mariner Mechanical. While I have not had any work they have completed for me, talking to them about their business I got a really good feeling they care about what they do. They say they don't do a lot of service work but you could give them a call and see what they say.

I know and trust Pete the Plumber.
I play lacrosse with the guy and have used him in the past. A good company that I would recommend. That being said Pete isn't the only guy on staff and he won't personally show up. I think they have grown from about three plumbers to 30 in about 10 years.

I have some plumbing experience. First, I have never had to use Pete the Plumber but from friends who have called him they were all very satisfied with the companys work. It sounds like a good recommendation if you can't do the work yourself.

Second, It sounds like you got two different issues. The floor being warped and water stains on the ceiling could very well be a leaking pipe. I would have to see it and investigate to be sure. Do you have a humidifier attached to your furnace. Hardwood can warp without it. Make sure you change the filter once a year in the humidifier if you do as this can scale up and cease being effective.

The sink and dishwasher backing up can be caused by a plugged pipe. This would have to be rotored out to clear the blockage. Do you have a garburator?. One common thing I noticed is that when using the garburator people don't run the water long enough afterwards to flush out the pipe. Stuff will settle in the pipe and adhere to it. Each time you use it more stuff clings on further reducing the diameter of the pipe eventually causing the sink and dishwasher to back up.

Hope this helps you. Let me know how things work out.

Good call Svartsengi

It was in fact both issues. The drain pipe was cracked (between the cabinets under at about floor level), a bout a yard of pipe was replaced. That pipe was backed up as well so it was rotored out. All is fine now, we managed to get a plumber in on Monday (not PTP . . . they weren't available till Thursday). So I guess the only thing left to do is pull out all the affected insulation replace it and the vapor barrier and fix the holes left in my basement wall and ceiling!

Just an FYI for everyone out there. My sewer pipe backed up on me a couple of weeks ago so I did what I thought was the right thing and called a Roto Rooter company to come out to unplug the pipe. $600.00 later and the plug still there the guy advised me that there was a problem with the City Main.

I called the city and they were there 2 hours later and had the plugged pipe clear in about 15 minutes. ALSO they do it for FREE

SO whoever reads this please do yourself a favor and if you have a Sink, Toilet or Sewer issue CALL THE CITY FIRST!!!

Hopefully my experience will save someone some money in the future.
