Default MLB to little league: you cant use our names

didnt see this posted already, and maybe it belongs in the other sports forum (mods feel free to move if necessary)
Major league baseball threatened to sue a jersey manufacturer for supplying little league teams with jerseys that featured the names of MLB teams. As such all teams will be called "the bulldogs" with the only distinction between them, being the city they are from

Quote:
Because the Bulldogs' uniforms didn't feature official major league team logos, neither the league nor its uniform supplier, SportStation of Tinley Park, had paid a licensing fee for the uniforms.
Late last year, SportStation received a letter from MLB, noting that not only the logos but the team names were trademarked. The letter ordered the company to stop producing the uniforms.

Just think of how much money the MLBPA can make if they go after kids for saying "I'm Alex Rodriguez" or "I'm Derek Jeter!" when they head out to the field to play a little ball with their friends.

Bit of a slippery slope.

I understand us crying foul, but they are trademarked for a reason. This jersey manufacturer is making a profit on re-producing trademarked products and not compensating MLB.

I would agree with you if the jersey manufacturer was using the team logos without permission, but that's not the case. This is just a ridiculous action on the part of MLB.

But they are not, it is just the name that they are using. That is pretty weak imo.

EDIT: damn too slow.

So what, the Okotoks Yankees is trademark infringement even if they dont use the logo?

That is BS and it should be fought.

I'd like to know how MLB thinks that it owns generic names such as Giants, Rangers, Cardinals, Tigers and Athletics.
