Default New discoveries of old music

This seems to be happening a lot to me lately. Some might remember the request I made to find out what the "Steve Earlish" song I heard was....it was Steve Earle.

Anyway...have you recently discovered music that you can't believe you hadn't heard before?

Mine? Grant Lee Buffalo.

How is it possible that I have never heard of this band before today?

With a lack of good new music, I've found myself going backwards lately. I've been listening to a lot of Beatles the last week or 2.
Next, I plan on dipping into some Jazz and blues classics, which are 2 genres I've never really touched before.

^^^ You never listened to the Clash before??? Wow. It's funny, I discovered them when I was 14 and they've been one of my top favorite bands since. It's good thought, the world needs more Clash...

The Stone Roses....great band

If you like Oasis you should check them out, you can definitely tell that a lot of their stuff was influenced by The Stone Roses. They even wrote a song (Don't Look Back in Anger) about one of The Stone Rose's songs (Sally Cinnamon)

Couple of my favs

The Who!

I went to a concert in 1989 (I was 16) with my parents and then when I went their concert last year I really got back into them and can't get enough!

I've recently discovered that The Kinks are responsible for 80% of the cool songs that you never knew who performed them.

Rediscovered the Travelling Wilburys recently. Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and George Harrison in the same band? Thumbs up.

How do you leave out Jeff Lynne?

Yeah, he is the one nobody knows, but ELO are probably one of the most overlooked bands. They put out a lot of great music (much of what is now being used for commercials, disappointingly).

Don't bring me down...

I knew Jeff Lynne was in there, but had no idea who he was or that he was from ELO or I certainly would have made mention of him. ELO is awesome.

Strange maaaaagic!

Also, anybody heard of Thunderclap Newman? Apparently they were a side project of Pete Townshend of The Who back in the 60's. I've had their song Something In The Air in my head for three days now, but don't know anything else by them.

Every once in a while, I'll rediscover April Wine.

I don't know why, but years will go by and then all of a sudden one day I'll dust them off and BAM, off I go on another April Wine kick for a month or so.
