Default Broken Bones Thread

Well I've just added my third broken bone to my resume.

-My first break was I chipped a piece off my elbow, I have a screw holding it in place.
-My second break was a scaphoid break, it's around the thumb area.
-My third break, just occured. I fractured my fibula. I must say fracturing the fibula is not as painful as sprains.

I'm sure there are other CP'rs that have had broken bones, which ones did you break.

Break free, unless you count stress fractures, which i don't.

and i was gonna say chipped elbows shouldn't count either, but then i saw that you had to have it screwed back together, that's a pretty serious chip then

Not good when it happens.

Hope it heals quickly for you.

Btw that screw in your elbow must give you grief everytime you go through security at the airport.

Actually it never goes off. I've actually got to keep the xray they did of it. It looks quite cool.

Only ever broke one. Never give your big brother the finger when you're seven years old. He might break it.

3 fracture experiences.

1. As a 3 year old, ran down a flight of concrete stairs, bailed, broke my hand (not sure which/how many bones in the hand).

2. As a 6 year old, drop-kicked a soccer ball on a grassy hill in the pouring rain, bailed, broke my hand (not sure which/how many bones in the hand - couldn't have been too serious because I didn't go have it set until a few days later).

3. Playing indoor soccer in 2002, late in the game, made a bad play, got mad at myself, took my anger out by kicking the wall of the playing field, which turned out to be much more solid than it looked. I could feel the bones crunching in my foot as it collapsed into itself accordian-style. 5 different fractures.

Lessons learned:

1. Do not play soccer

I am such a klutz, always falling up stairs, running into things...etc. But I've never broken a bone. It's a miracle really.

I broke my wrist 3 times, then I decided to sell my BMX.

The 3rd time doesn't really count though. I was supposed to wear the cast for 6 weeks and took it off after 2 weeks because it was summer and it sucked having a cast. Then I re-broke it lifting a carton of milk.

I just broke my toe last weekend. Nothing big. It didn't prevent me from playing ball hockey, but when I got home I wished it had.

Sprains though... they are another story altogether. I've twice sprained my right ankle so bad that I couldn't drive for a month both times. Had several other minor ankle sprains to both ankles.

Two breaks for me so far...

When I was a young'n (2 or 3 I believe) I was playing "Jump off the stool into you older cousin's arms". Well said older cousin failed to catch me and so I landed elbow first onto what was basically a cement floor. Snapped my left arm in half right on the growth plate. The only thing holding my forearm and upper arm together was skin. So that was a pretty good one.

The second happened oh probably 4 or 5 years ago now...we were dicking around at the school for some concert or something and went running back in. There's a little concrete landing that's maybe an inch above the grass that I sorta hopped onto. I landed kinda goofy on my left foot, and it just felt like I'd rolled it. Only thing was I couldn't walk, so off to the hospital for X-rays where it ended up I'd broken a bone in my foot (5th metatarsal if I recall correctly).

I had my nose fractured when I jumped in to stop a fight/possible robbery or worse.

The guy I was trying to help ended up running away leaving me to fend for my own. What a dick.

Broke a collarboane when I was four - falling off one of those really old fashioned radiators we had in our house at the time. (the house was 120 years old so you can imaginf the old cast iron hot water radiators)

I broke my collarbone again about 10 years ago playing hockey, took a bad check on the point of my shoulder. I didn't realize it was broken at first. I went back to the bench, felt a little sore but nothing too bad. Then when I lifted my stick up past my chest to jump on the ice for my next shift I almost passed out from the paiin.

Finally, I broke a couple of ribs in a rollerblading accident a couple of years after that. I may have broken a toe once or twice as well, and I got one of my front teeth stuck in the bone of my right middle finger after falling down a hill when I was 7, but I don't know if that counts as a break. Still have a neat little scar from thst one.

I've broken my little toe, my nose and a couple of legs. Thankfully, the legs I broke weren't my own.

I broke my right forearm falling of a horse when I was 5 ... not sure which bone it was.

I broke 3 bones in my neck when I got thrown from a rolling auto (feel asleep highway driving late at night). The specific fractures were 2 vertebrae (C6 & T5) and the odontoid (aka the Hangman's Bone).

I cracked my head open once when I was thrown from a different rolling auto than the incident above. (T-boned by a three ton truck.).

Plus numerous toes ... I go barefoot a lot and have a tendency to accidentally kick large, hard and/or heavy objects. Not cool.

Oh ya ... I broke my tail bone a couple times too. (Cause: drunken idiocy.)
