Junk Removal
Can anyone recommend a good, cheap junk removal company?
I've got a 1/6 load worth of junk according to 1800gotjunk's website. Any idea how much that is going to come out to? It's mostly wood and miscellaneous household garbage.

Why not find a buddy with a truck and do an afterhours run to one of the many commercial or residential construction site dumpsters? Doesn't sound like there's that much.

For some reason when you said junk removal, I thought you wanted your testicles removed.
Anyhow, yeah, grab a truck and just haul it to the dump yourself. I think it's like a $5 fee, so it shouldn't be too much.

or you could not be a dick at take your own stuff to the dump instead of making someone else pay for it's disposal.

I don't get it. How is asking to borrow someone's truck to take some stuff to the dump being a dick? I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you just offered to pay for gas and whatever.

you misread what he said, he said borrow a friends truck and haul the garbage away, to someone elses dumpster/garbage bin, not the dump.

Ahhh, gotcha. Lol, I was sitting here thinking, I'm definitely missing something.
Edit: Yeah, I just re-read it, makes more sense now.

1-800-Got-Junk is a ripoff. Check the phone book, the classifieds or keep you eyes open for a homemade sign that says "Junk Removal" and has a phone number.
You don't need a fancy truck or guys in uniforms to haul your trash away. With 1-800-Got-Junk that is exactly what you are paying for and paying a lot. A guy with a truck will do it for way cheaper.

I've seen friends call the junk removal places. You are looking at $300-500 depending on who you call and the size of the load.
As mentioned, many dump runs cost $5. But be careful, load up to 250kg are $5, then after that you pay by the kilogram based on the per tonne rate. Meaning 250kg is $5, and 270kg is about $18.
I have to echo the calling a buddy with a truck, and going to the dump. Buying him lunch, beer, gas, and paying for dump fees will only cost you $50-100. Much more reasonable.

I had a couch to dispose of last year, called a couple junk removal guys and couldn't believe how much they wanted.
So I took a saw to the couch and chopped it up into pieces, slowly got rid of it over the next few weeks.

My family revels in doing things the 'cost effective' (read:CHEAP) way. Over the years Dad has thrown away literally tons of renovations waste through the city collectors. He buys those Contractor Bags(husky brand?) from HD or Rona and portions the waste into the bags roughly ⅓ full depending on what he puts in there.
I've seen him throw away shingles, scrap wood, glass, stucco and even concrete rubble. I think they have a 5 bag limit/week, but I've seen them take 9 before.
Oh, and there is a wood recycling place down in ogden right near the shingle plant that'll take wood with nails, but not drywall, etc.

That's good to know. Any idea what the name of it is? Or do they charge to take wood? I always think its a shame to see wood being throw out. I will use up scrap 2X4s as firewood, but with PT wood it would be nice to have an option other than the landfill.

1800 got junk is a rip off. They are way more expensive then other choices and they won't give you a price until they're on site.
I worked there for 1 day in training to be a sales person, and the first thing they tought us, is that their prices were really high and not a selling point.
I would avoid them and use the little guy with smaller fees.
