The Long Weekend Trauma
Just watched yet another report on the long weekend festivities and am starting to get a little ticked off about the way off roaders and campers are being portrayed.
I go camping as much as I can and love being in the outdoors. I have always respected the places i'm camping be it random off road or in a campground. I've seen some stupid things happen in my time and the long weekends are generally when they do happen. But how is it that this is such a terrible issue in the media today? yes its getting worse, but thats to be expected in a city that is growing so rapidly and isn't really expanding off road/camping areas to feed those people.
The thing that really gets me is that everyone is so quick to jump on off roaders when in many cases if you drive another 2 minutes down a trail you will see a clear cut from logging that hasn't been replanted in years? I'd say that damage is a drop in the bucket compared to some of the severe damage logging companies are getting away with unscathed.
My fear is that with so many bleedinghearts today we are going to see off roading and any sort of camping outside of banff and kananaskis banned. I'd like to see the idiots who are out there punished but you can't lump everyone in with a handful of morons like the media is doing.
