Hey all,
It's a really long story, but I'll tell you that the guys at Best Buy pooched an install on a car starter for my dad that was supposed to be a suprise for Christmas. (Nothing like telling him on Christmas day that his present has been in his truck for 2 weeks). Anyway, they totally screwed it up and have not been in the least bit helpful (All three managers I've talked to have been usless and one of them was outright rude). Anyway, when the usless managers were done not helping me one of them said he hoped it didn't sour me on Best Buy and that he wanted to keep me as a customer. But I had to tell him that it did leave a sour taste in my mouth and that he had lost me as a customer, and that I would do three things.
1) Return the stuff I had already bought there that wasn't currently installed in my dad's truck (DONE, my brother in law who was with me has returend about $600 worth of stuff)
2) Never buy anthing else from Best Buy (Still doing this one, of course it's only been three days but one day at a time)
3) Tell everyone I know never to buy anthing from Best Buy ever again. I kinda know everyone here so why not?
So here I go.
Everyone on CP.
NEVER BUY ANTHING FROM BEST BUY EVER AGAIN.
They are evil, they don't know how to install car starters, their customer service sucks, their managers are pretty good at appologizing for a situation without offering a solution to fix the problem, and Edmonton for some reason loves them. These are the reasons I don't think you sould ever buy anthing from them again.
End of rand.
PS. Mods, hope this is okay to put here, it's just my opinion.

Funny thing. I have the exact same rant (different product) but instead of Best Buy, insert Future Shop. Coincidence? I think NOT!!!!!!

Sorry to here about your problems.
I hate buying from Future Shop/Best Buy.
However my last two electronic pruchases have been from them, and they have treated me well.
Best Buy in Arizona: looked at T.V's while on holiday met a sales rep that was a big hockey fan from from Minnestoa. Anyway he was really helpful even thou I was not going to buy a t.v. from him. I did buy a DSS receiver from him.
Future Shop Macleod trail: Bought a 50 inch Hi Def Panasonic DLP, negotiated with sales rep and manager, they beat competitiors price, offered free delivery. I also got lots of aeroplan miles. ( Did not buy the extended warranty).
The only reason I bought the T.V. at Future Shop was to get the aeroplan miles. Other wise I really prefer to go to London Drugs.

They screwed up on the istall and the check engine light wont go off. After talking with three managers about what they were gonna do to fix it not one offered us a deal on it to compensate us for the fact that we had to make 2 extra trips down to the store and hang out for an hour. We finally got free install becasue I told the manager (he didn't offer it) that if they didn't give me back the install cost I'd tell them to take it out and give me all my money back. So after working on it for an extra 4 hours they told me they had to wait till a tech service line opened on monday morning and that they'd call me first thing on monday to tell me what they found out. Finally I got a call at 4:30 yesterday (not first thing by any stretch of the imagination) from a guy telling me that we should just take it to a dealer and have them clear the codes in the computer because it's still under warranty (the truck is 6 weeks old). They hadn't called the tech line, and were basically telling me to go fix it myself, all the while saying we don't want to lose you as a customer but not suggesting how that could be accomplished.
So now I have to take my dad's truck to the dealer and get the computer reset (a minor problem with the truck, but an incoveniece for me), Best Buy didn't have to fix their mistake, I've wasted 3 hours of my own time, and so has my brother in law, my dad's Christmas supprise is completly ruined, and all they did for us was give us free install for the thing (which I had to argue to get).
So screw Best Buy, they've lost me as a customer, and i hope some of you as well.

Given Best Buy owns Future Shop, I think not.
The Future Shop in Northland Villiage has been on my permanent boycot list for three years now.

Interesting. I've been a regular shopper at both and never had much of a problem. I think their people are generally BS artists wanting to make a sale, which is no different from anywhere else, but if you go in with your head up they are really fair to deal with. Sorry to hear about your problem. What kind of car is it? The manager may be correct in the need to take it to a dealer and have the engine light reset. That might be the end to your problem and a very simple fix. Some electronic systems are just really touchy and those check engine lights go off at the slightest thing.

I never ever buy anything from those stores. If I ever do go into them, I love listening to the crap the sales people feed their customers. 90% of them have no clue what so ever about the products they are selling.
On a seperate note, I did apply for a job with them when I was out of work. I showed up for the interview, and person interviewing me was probably about 5 years younger than me, and was not prepared. Every place I have had an interview at had my resume in front of them. This guy did not have my resume in front of him, and had no idea about my skill set. Also, the "exam" that they make you write, is a complete joke. Every single question deals with determining if you are going to steal from them. I hate that place.

it's a 2005 F350 super duty (don't worry he actually uses it for work and hunting, it isn't a strictly city truck by any means).
I was never worried that it was a major problem, but the complete lack of help is what is p*ssing me off. After promising they'll take care of it their response to me was basically:
Take it to the dealer and get it fixed yourself, because if you don't tell them it's becaue you had a starter installed, they should do it under warranty.
Well nuts to them, I ain't lying to the dealer, I'm gonna tell them what happened, and if they charge me, the bill is going directly to Best Buy.

I went into Best Buy once to buy a tv. I asked two people to help me get one down from the shelf and they couldn't be bothered to help or even find me someone who would. I left and never returned.
I buy most electronics online these days, and have never had any issues. I don't know why anyone would pay more money to buy at one of these big box stores. The support you get for your money is laughable. I can see paying extra at a boutique type store, but not these stores.

Actually I don't mind Soundsaround, bue that is just because the one time I've bought from them I managed to save like 40% on my car stereo just by telling them exactly what I wanted to pay and then saying no and walking away untill they relented. Yeah for being a hard ass.

Seriously the best place to buy electronics is Wal-Mart. If they stock the item your looking for then you can do no wrong. They never hesitate fixing any problem or concern, and they will give you the lowest price possible (match competitors). I had a Sony Trinitron that had a slight angle on the picture and they replaced it over the shelf. (No sending back to lame warranty centers). I had to take the new one back 9 months later and they gladly let me upgrade to a flat screen for the additional cost. Then 1 month later that flat screen was reduced in price and they gladly refunded me the difference. Then 2 months after that the price was reduced again, to which I received another refund. Can’t go wrong there.

the only thing I like best buy/future shop is to beat the other retailers into selling for a price matched+ price. I was looking at a camera at future shop and someone here told me that staples will price match+10% (thanks again). The consumer just cant lose in a situation like that.
On another note, if any one else is looking at a car starter+install, give sammy a call down at Mister Detail, on the south side, tell him Cody sent ya....he'll cut you a good deal

I have had good experiences at Futureshop myself, but everyone has their own situations at various stores.
For me, A&B Sound and Radioshack both dicked me around too many times.

Futureshop is awesome if you don't have to talk to any of their sales people there. They are human leeches and they don't know anything about their products. Their prices are actually very good and their return policy is great(for their products only) Do your research online first and then buy from them.
Once in a while i like to ask them some questions just to test their knowledge and then point out all their mistakes. They turn red and runaway as fast as possible. hehehehe

Future Shop/Best Buy is ok to go if you to buy a DVD movie, video game, music CD or TV but I would never buy a computer/appliance or anything that may need to be installed or repaired in the future.

BBS: I have to ask.. why did you go to Best Buy, when good old me (a member of CP) offered discounted car starters for all members? Sorry about your problem there. I have an installer with 10 years experience and is certified. Too bad you didn't come see me first. But just for you, I'll stay away from Best Buy.
