Default Car break in question

So I stupidly parked my car outside last night, and came out to find my passenger window caved in. Apparently someone broke into my car and stole the front faceplate on my car stereo. Thats it the fricken front faceplate of my car stereo.

Does anyone know if its possible just to purchase or replace that part, or am I looking at a whole new car stereo.

Bleh what a way to hit mid week.

I'm sure you can get the faceplate. That's why they make them like that. I'd try the store you got it from first, they may have an idea. Barring that, go to the company website and drop an e-mail if you have to.

EDIT I park outside all the time and have never had a problem. HAd a very nice car too. Where do you park?

I rent a house in the Willow park area, and I had a bunch of stuff in the garage so I parked in the drive way.

I'm gonna start embedding claymore mines on my front yard now.

Weird how there seems to be more car break ins in residential areas then in city areas... Goes to show you just who are committing these crimes.

That blows. I lost my faceplate about eight years ago and I went to soundsurround to get it replaced. The price was almost as much as just buying the deck again. Hopefully it's changed now but the guy said it was to deter criminals that swipe the deck from being able to replace the faceplate for cheap.

WTF man, that totally sucks.

We need to start a vigilante gang that patrols the streets and beats the SNOT out of people that do this kind of thing. It's so ridiculously senseless too; just like Jolinars extension cords. Yeah it's funny to joke about it, but seriously, who steals extension cords and car stereo faceplates? Did you check your change tray to see if they cleaned that out too? Maybe they stole all your fuses to sell at the local flea market.

BTW, I know a "guy" who can get you a new, semi used stereo for "cheap".....

Jimbo: Hey! You're that drunken posse. Wow...can I join ya?
Homer: [skeptical] I don't know...can you swing a sack of door knobs?
Jimbo: _Can_ I?
Homer: You're in! Here's the sack.
Moe: But you gotta supply your own knobs.

I'm sure if you hit local pawn shops you will find your own faceplate at a VERY reasonable price!

At which point, they might come back and steal it again.

I had somebody do that to me ages ago when I was driving my old POS pickup truck.

The faceplate jack is aggravating because the plate is useless to anyone else but now the deck is useless to you.

Weak.

I feel for you Captain. Someone broke into our car a few years ago at a Park n Ride. They left all the tools and expensive stuff in the trunk but took my change and a few burned CDs. Did a bunch of damage to the door lock on the driver side that would have cost a pretty penny to fix.

I'd contact the company that made the stereo. I thought that each face plate could only work with that actual stereo. I could be wrong, but I thought that was one of the security features with the faceplate technology.

Sorry to hear that Captain. Had mine broken into a few years back and nearly caught the asshats in the act. Heard glass breaking and rushed upstaris to see what the commotion was. Grabbed my trusty bat and raced out the door after the punks. They dropped all they had stolen in the pursuit but managed to get away.

Same thing happend to my Civic during a Flames game in the Parking lot now occupied by Sasso.

I bought a replacement faceplate from A&B sound for $100. Also noticed the thief left my cds and change but tried to pry open my glovebox (which doesnt have a lock). All in all they got my faceplate and i got a broken window (in -20C weather), a useless stereo and a bent glovebox.

I second planting claymores.

Mounting a motion detecting machine gun in the bushes would work too.

Someone pick-pocketed a pack of cigarettes from my jacket as I was walking downtown yesterday. I felt the hand go in, but lost the dude in the crowd. They could have stolen a perfectly good wallet that was in the same pocket, but no - they had to go for the smokes! At least it was the nicotine addiction and not rational judgment that motivated the crime.

Sorry to hear about the faceplate loss Captain. I've always wondered what the benefit of that would be to a thief. I still don't have an answer.

None. A pawnshop might give them $10 to go away. Maybe.
