Default Gretz Game 4 Results - OT!

Day 4
7 PENGUINS 5 HURRICANES 6 (OT) (Canes lead 3-1)

Lots of interesting stuff in this one. Some injuries, ejections. Pens come back and tie the game late, but Carolina pulls it out in overtime.

Close, even game. Pens came back from 3-love already these playoffs. 3-1 should be no problem!

Fart you know I just realized Doug is doing all this with just 75 OVR goalie.

We've seen in the past a goalie with that rating win a round (e.g. Garth Snow) but I don't think a guy has ever taken a team this far with that type of rating.

Makes one sometimes wonder if you really do need an 79/80 type goalie in the sim.

Well we viewed this game as a must win and we couldn't pull it out. It is a long hard road a head of us now as we have to win 3 games in a row against a very tough team. It is one game at a time for us now as we hope we can head home and pull out a win to extend the season another game. Nabby has been horrible and there will be pressure for him to perform in order to gain some job security. Pens are in a deep hole that is for sure.

These sim results make you wonder if you need any 70+ OV players at all.

You can put me in the group of the thinking you really do need a 89/80 goalie. Like you said, a lesser skilled goalie can steal a couple games but with the way the schedule is and playing every night... it's hard enough on the highend goalies... I really do see why we don't see many this far into the season. I've never had a top end goaltender since I've been in Carolina and it's never been much of a surprise to me that I've never experienced any playoff success because of it.

You have to have faith in the backup, thats the only way

If you want to go on a deep playoff run you're going to need to go to your back up goalie at some time in the third round. I actually think the Sharks have the type of tandem you want in the CPHL as you have a veteran guy with a good rating in Belfour, and than Osgood who's got a solid backup rating and combined they cost less than most starting CPHL goalies. IMO the biggest waste of money in this league is a 7.5 to 8.5 million dollar goalie who's a 78 or 79 OV guy (cough Manny Legace cough). You might as well find two 76 guys that cost you 3 to 4 million each.
