Tiger reportedly done for the year...
Per the Golf Channel: http://thegolfchannel.com/core.aspx?...1&select=26291
Was the U.S. Open victory worth the price? I'm sure he would say it was.
I predict he will be back for the PGA Championship.

Possible absence of Tiger Woods would have ripple effect
Woods remains the single biggest driver when it comes to golf-related television ratings and web traffic. NBC, for example, gets "more than a 50% jump when he plays, and an even more pronounced jump when he's among the leaders," network spokesman Brian Walker said.
* NBC recorded its best Monday golf broadcast rating in 30 years, and ESPN described its slice of the action as the most-viewed golf telecast in cable TV history.
* PGA.com, PGATour.com, NBCSports.com and Sports Illustrated's golf.com were among the websites that set records on Monday as fans stuck at work scrambled to stay abreast of the 18-hole playoff and the sudden-death win.
* An estimated 24,000 fans, double the number during the last Open playoff seven years ago, lined Torrey Pines' fairways.
* CNBC reported, with tongue partly in cheek, that New York Stock Exchange trading slipped by 9.2% while Woods and Mediate slugged it out.

I figured he'd be in tough to be in back for the British Open since it's only like 3 more weeks away. But I think he has to see the bigger picture and how trying to play again this year could cost him down the road. I mean golf is a game where a 35 year old player is still in his prime and Woods is still only 32. It might be some time until we see him playing again.

Yeah he probably won't play again until Torrey Pines next Feb.

It sounds like he is getting the ACL reconstruction, and that he has been procastinating it for a while. I'm surprised he didn't try to do it in the major off-season in the winter, that should have given him enough time to rehab. I went through something similar where I tried to play sports with a torn acl. It would be fine a lot of the time, but I'd reinjure it all the time. When I finally had the ACL surgery, I wished I had done it a couple years earlier, as it was better than new after a few months of rehab.
I'm sure he'll be back in top form by next year. His biggest risk is probably losing his form by taking a few months completely off swinging a club. I have no idea, but I bet he hasn't taken more than a few days off of swinging clubs since he was like 3.

I expect he will be gone for quite awhile. He probably realises now that coming back early for the sake of the US Open has a huge mistake. And with 5 days of serious tourqe on his knee one is left wondering if he did more damage than there was originaly.

Knee surgery to sideline Tiger for rest of season.
Tiger Woods has made a decision to go ahead with season-ending knee surgery, the world's No. 1 golfer announced on his website on Wednesday.
Woods, who battled through the injury to win the U.S. Open on Monday, experienced a small stress fracture in his left leg about two weeks before the major.
Woods will have reconstructive surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament and will rest for the remainder of the year to get him back to 100 percent. Bothered by a sore left knee throughout the year, Woods had arthroscopic surgery in April to remove fluid inside and outside the ACL.

And when Tiger was asked about Golf ratings when he wasn't playing, "I don't really care," he said with an impish smile "I don't think anyone watches golf without me anymore."

Haney was with him in Florida when doctors told Woods the preferred treatment for the stress fractures was three weeks on crutches and three weeks of inactivity.
"Tiger looked at the doctor and said, 'I'm playing in the U.S. Open, and I'm going to win.' And then he started putting on his shoes," Haney said. "He looked at me and said, 'Come on, Hank. We'll just putt today."'

Wow... a torn ACL and two stress fractures to the tibia. The guy really did win the US open on one leg, and with pretty much no preparation. But he's just a big wuss, right Mike Milbury?

I am no Tiger fan, but this is truly unfortunate for him. Makes his US Open win all the more impressive. Also makes you wonder if he will be able to come back 100% (I am sure that there are some Pro-golfers that hope he is back, but at 75%)

So, did he play the US Open because he knew his season was done either way?

Actually I wanted him gone for good. This looks like he will be back in the somewhat near future.
While this may reduce the amount of Tiger talk during the golf broadcasts I am sure there will still be a large focus on him. At least now we will be able to see important shots of the leaders rather than camera's showing Tiger putting his clubs in his trunk while others are putting in a play-off.

This just makes his US Open victory exponentially more incredible. I hope he Grand Slams his way to tying Nicklaus' record next year.

Well I dislike Tiger a lot...he is very arrogant. I am willing to bet he has paid off a doctor to say his leg really does have a stress fracture. Anyone who has experienced an acl or mcl tear or even a strain will know how difficult it is to walk on and especially BEND DOWN. Tiger didn't seem to have any trouble doing this unless he made a bad shot.
IMO he's a big faker and is doing all of this for even more publicity.
I hate him even more now.

Yeah I was going to say that post was dumber than any of the trade Tanguay for Jokinen posts I've seen on this site.
