Default Kolanos, Stevenson stand out in Flames’ inaugural season (QC Online)

I would agree with most of these. Sutter is not ready for the NHL yet, since he has just come to life in the AHL. He needs at least another year down here. Pelech is a possibility, but another year would not hurt.

Kolanos really did help this team when he came in, but has proven to be lazy on several occasions, and takes some really stupid penalties. That in itself offsets a lot of what he brings offensively. Stevenson should be the team MVP.

Just my opinions, which might be worth .02 .

Its good to see some vets (Stevenson, Germayn) really step up. I'd be interested in Kolanos for a 2-way contract, but he'd have to show more of a team commitment to be in Calgary.

Was Pelech the 2nd best defenseman on the team? I'm really looking forward to seeing him in Calgary, but I'm patient.

I think Prust is going to make this team pretty soon, at the trade deadline, Sutter singled out Prust as someone he did not want to give up via trade (I assume another team inquired) Hopefully, some juniors will be making a jump to help out the farm next year to offset a promotion or two to Calgary - van der Gulik, Prust, Maki, Cunning, Pardy, McEllihney being some candidates.

I think it was reported that Chicago wanted Prust for Vandermeer, which is why we had to wait to get him from Philadelphia instead.

I read the article to suggest that Sutter and Pelech had made the greatest improvements over the course of the season and will contribute more in the AHL next year.

In my interactions with Darryl and Ron Sutter, both continuously spoke to the adjustment necessary for a prospect coming out of junior or college to pro hockey. The leap is greater from junior to pro than from the AHL to the NHL. The first year is all about keeping up with grizzled veterans, trying to get stronger, and learning as much as you can.

Pelech has looked great for most of the year. Sutter has impressed me right about when Nystrom was sent back down. Hes our version of Nystrom is to Calgary.

He has made some great steps in his first year and im excited to see how he does next year.
