TSN 2 now on Shaw
just heard a rumour from a very reliable source that Shaw will be picking up both the SD and HD feeds of TSN-2, starting this Friday. Will be a free preview for a bit.

Since Shaw owns them... does this extend to Star Choice too?

Good news. I really hoped Shaw would have had it yesterday for an extra Champions League game. I really wanted to watch Barcelona v Sporting Lisbon which was shown on TSN2. I was able to watch it in French however as RDS carried it.

So, if I get TSN I don't have to pay for TSN2?

I ripped that from another forum, so I don't know for sure. I would assume that if you pay for TSN on Ch 21, you'd get TSN2. And if you get TSN in HD, you'd get TSN2 HD automatically, which makes sense.

Finally Shaw adds a new HD channel! At this rate they might be up to 30 by 2020.

Yes. This is actually the reason Shaw and TSN(CTV) can't come to a resolution to carry the channels. Shaw, and others like Bell, wanted to charge $1.50-$2.50 for the channel because of the cost to provide it. However TSN wants it to be included as a TSN package so if you get TSN1 you get TSN2 with it for free.
Please keep in mind this is just the word from people within the industry nothing actually confirmed on why by Shaw, as far as I know.

I really don't know what their going to play on TSN2. It's going to be repeats of CFL games and other events. Don't think there is enough content to have two live channels going. Although the channel will be helpful when there are two events at the same time, but that means someone gets bumped off the main network like what is happening to the Esks/Mtl game this weekend. (And I have trouble believing that no one foresaw this in TSN or the CFL offices to maybe say "hmm, TSN has contractual obligations to show golf at the same time we've scheduled a CFL game that TSN is also supposed to carry.") The CFL is getting screwed on this one and it may happen more and more now that TSN has a second channel. Push aside the smaller guy to play the big guy on the main network.

That might be almost as awesome as their amazing deal to pay get superchannel HD for $18.95 a month, since you have zero choice but to get the 4 SD channels as well. WHY WOULD YOU GET SD CHANNELS IF YOU HAVE HD
Sorry, still annoyed with Shaw over that.

I'm still annoyed with shaw that they have a fully loaded package that includes everything ... except superchannel. I wonder if they'll pull the same thing with tsn2?

Yeah, that's what i'm talking about. I'm just saying maybe someone would have had the foresight to see the scheduling conflict in advance and do something about it. Now the football game gets relegated to the second tier...and there are probably a lot of people that may not be able to see the game. Especially people on rogers or shaw if they don't get the channel before the weekend. That would suck to be an eskimo fan and have the CFL and TSN tell you that all games will be televised on TSN only to find out this particular game is going to be televised on TSN2 which your cable provider does not carry.

This will open up a lot more things than repeats of games. This will give us more access to NHL games, special events we may not otherwise see and more ESPN programming. I am excited about this change, I think it will be slow for a bit but more things will be added in the future.

I am sure Shaw would love to tell TSN, Superchannel, etc to go shove it except doing that means they can not carry those channels SD or HD. And then they will have people complaining about that...so it's a lose-lose for them in this type of situation.

Superchannel is owned by Bell, Shaw has to pay a lot of money to Bell to have these channels and they need to make that money back some way, not to mention the amount of money they spend to broad cast it.
I hate to break this news to everyone but Shaw, Bell, etc. are in this to make money and put up huge profits. It is not about being a good public service and providing the cheapest TV possible.

Oh, I didn't know superchannel was owned by bell. That makes a little more sense now. I am also aware of basic business principles ... I just feel I should be allowed to complain.
