You're not coming out of retirement are you Mick? You're not taking the test over again so you can come back to torment us, are you? Please say it isn't so Mick.
I dont know about the Saddledome ice, but I've worked at rinks before, it generally takes about 2-3 days to melt completely, it takes about a week or two to re-freeze, and I imagine that they melt the Dome's ice probably once a year at the most.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Can they heat the brine solution as well as chill it.
If done properly they should be able to melt the ice quickly without causing stress cracks in the concrete.
A couple videos I found. I have no idea about the 'dome, but I assume it's similar.

Might be interesting to note, but last weekend was Monster Jam... dirt, dirt, and more dirt all over the place. It'll be interesting to see the process of melting the ice, getting all that dirt in and out, and getting the ice ready to go a week later (or sooner if the Hitmen played at home).

I think the Flames practised on the ice at the dome yesterday.

Those videos were really cool. I had no idea all the markings were painted in by hand.

I know at least sometime the Saddledome ice is covered by an insulated subfloor for concerts etc but,
How often do they melt it completely?
How long does it take to melt?
How long does it take to re-ice?
TIA
The ice has been taken out twice this year. Once for bull bustin and once for Monster Jam. The first sheet was put in in August.
The ice is generally gone/taken out/melted over night. They turn the refrigeration system off and use the Olympics to take the ice down to almost the cement, then they let the remainder melt.
It took a day (8 to 5) to put the ice back in this past Monday. It was not skated on until Wednesday morning, Tuesday was used to build up the ice to the proper level.
The center ice logo as well as the Telus and Coke logos are premade now and only have to be placed in the proper spot, no more painting them on the ice.

It was a royal mess, dirt everywhere. It was pretty clean by Wednesday morning, in time for Kelowna and the Flames to practice and for the Hitmen to play a game that night!
