Harper's Minister for Democratic Reform and gay men
This guy is a real gem http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories
"Let me put it to you this way -- there's As and Bs. The As are guys like me. The Bs are homosexual s with dirt under their fingernails that transmit diseases.'' Tom Lukiwski, Minister for Democratic Reform, Conservative.
And Premier Wall is in on the fun too, just two guys hanging out videotaping each other......
I hope they make the entire transcript available to the public

And that's the Conservative parliament =|
edit- saying that as in "that's the ball game" not that everyone in the conservatives shares that opinion.

I think the Minister for Democratic Reform needs to go to attend a grade 7 health class to learn more about the spread of infectious disease.
Also, I'm not sure which question I want answered first:
1. Why do homosexuals have dirt under their fingernails?
2. Why would two people in government tape themselves having this conversation?

Because they are really clever.
That video is hilarious. I mean look at that guy. You'd think it's 1971, not 1991. What a greasy little geek.

It never is though. Comments like this, no matter how old, are what always end up burning the entire conservative party.
It's why Harper got smart and put a muzzle on everyone at the last election.

A sixteen year old recording? Is this really how desperate the opposition is to trash the Conservatives?
Oh, wait, I just read the OP again...

Desperate? Maybe? They also realize it's stuff like this that will make people think "Same old conservatives."

Really? A recording from '91? Are you serious?
Not that I'm really picking sides here, but this is probably the least scandalous thing that the opposition party could try and pick at the Convervatives with.
Because we all know that people never change, opinions never sway, and paradigms within societies never grow and open up to new understanding.

It shouldn't be surprising...heck there's many, many Calgarians (even some on this very forum) who will never vote for the Liberals because of bad policies that were implemented by long since-retired politicians 30+ years ago.

So the only thing the NDP (and presumably the Liberals, cause you know a desperate Dion is going to jump all over it) are arguing is that people are too stupid to see through the obvious charade they are pulling?
Kinda funny that the left wing expects people to be stupid sheep. Kinda sad that they are often right.

Meh, 16/17 years ago?
I wouldn't be surprised if the OP/Blaster/MH or half the liberal caucus didn't agree with him back then. Hell I would have.

What "charade" is that? The charade of "showing people what this Cabinet Minister said when he was 40 years old"?
Those dastardly left-wing pinkos.
If the Conservative Party stumbled across a 15 year old video of, say, Ignatieff badmouthing and swearing about some minority, they'd bury it.

Exactly... that thinking was very prevalent... there were a tonne of misconceptions about AIDS in the 80's and early 90's .
Like i said earlier.... he owned up and apologized. What more do you want him to do ???

I also would not be surprised if half the liberal caucus did not agree with him back then. I bet very few of them did. And it is good that you did not agree with him back then, nobody should have.
As for the people that say he apologized, move on, I would imagine these are the same people that want to get rid of the frivolous Human Rights Commission.
Maybe there is just something in the water in Regina-Lumsdon-Lake Centre, what with the comments of Larry Spencer as a member of the earlier incarnation of the Conservative Party, the Canadian Alliance.....

Heh, you're probably right. Sixteen years ago, I probably said plently of equally stupid and homophobic things. Of course, in 1991, I was an 12 year old junior high student, not a 41 year old politician...
That being said, it's pointless to bring this up now. Lukiwski has apologized for his remarks, and he seems sincere. Society's attitudes towards homosexuals have advanced greatly since 1991. If the NDP or whoever else really wanted to slam the CPC or one of their MPs, there's plenty of recent ammunition to use.

Not too mention, the AIDS epidemic was barely understood in 1991. A lot of people thought that it could be spread through casual contact.

The same Liberal caucus that voted, unanimously, in 1999 not to redefine the definition of marriage to include gay couples?

Indeed. We should never forgive or forget past transgressions. On that vein, the enterally corrupt Liberal party should never hold power again.
Don't you agree?
