Default GAME 13: STAMPS vs ARGO-NOTS

Rematch game in Toronto. As we all know the Stamps kicked some b&^t last game. The question now is can they repeat? I have to say the chances of that is probably in the 80s - 90s percent or even higher.

The struggling Argos head coach Don Matthews still haven't name his starting QB for this game as of last night. Rumour has it he is going back with rodeo man Cody Pickett but that was just a rumour. What is up with the QB controversy in this team? When Argos signed Kerry Joseph, they still have a guy who played well late last season in Michael Bishop as a starter. Stubler then named them 1A and !B but didn't last as Bishop were traded to Riders. Now, Matthews took over as a coach and he too started a QB controversy. He benched Kerry Joseph in favour of a untested rookie QB and looks like he will do it again.

Quarterback: Henry Burris vs Pickett/Joseph. The way Burris been playing lately, it doesn't who the Argos QB is. Burris got the advantage on this one.

Running Back: Joffrey Reynolds, Jon Cornish vs Domenick Dorsey, Jamal Robertson and Andre Durie. Reynolds can outrun any of these Argo's RB. Dorsey had a good game last week but I don't think the Stamps will allow him to move around too much. Robertson didn't do much last game. Give CALGARY the edge.

Receivers: Calgary got one of the deepest talent in receiving corp. Nik Lewis had a great game last game. Jermaine Copeland can be a force vs the Argos. Teyo Johnson is a good blocker and also have good hands. Brett Ralph is always good when needed. The guy can catch the ball anywhere on the field. Ken-Yon Rambo, deep threat and mostly sure-handed. Usually match against new DBs and he can usually find the openings. Ryan Thelwell doesn't play much but when they call his name, he usually contributes. Calgary also added an Canadian Jabari Arthur (6-4").Of course Reynolds can catch as well. Calgary is always good with the YAC (Yards after the Catch). Toronto receivers struggled last game dropping balls, fumbles and so on. Their go-to guy Arland Bruce did not caught his first pass until the 2nd half. Another edge for the Stamps.

Offensive Line: 3 rookies (Tsoumpas,Newman and Archibald) playing with 2 cagey veterans doesn't seem to show how raw their talents are. Those 3 played like veterans already.Argos OL did okay providing protection to Pickett last game but they also made a lot of mistakes. They are no match with Calgary's defensive pressures. STAMPS have the advantage.

Defensive Linemen: Calgary will sit out their Defensive MVP so far in MIke Labinjo(foot injury) but I think both Phillips and Rebede can get the job done. Toronto's Belli, Brown and Harriott were not a factor last game. STAMPS.

Linebackers: Outside LB Jojuan Armour, Shannon James and Dwayne Carpenter are doing great. Still looking for Armour's explosiveness though. Rasheed seems to be getting comfortbale playing the MLB position. James has been spectacular in the last few games. Argos LB are kindy messy these days. One of their best LB Michael Fletcher hasn't been playing in the past few games. Eiben and O-Shea were awful last game missing their assignments. STAMPS.

Defensive Backs: Safety Wes Lysack been playing well in the past 2-3 games. The 2 Brandons (Browner and Smith) are still playing with an edge.Dwight Anderson is doing his job properly but needs to cut down on his penalties.Julian Battle, Milton Collins are good additions. So far, the only question mark in this group is Calvin Bannister. He seems to get beat a lot but he usually bounced back. Argos Parker, Wheaton, Heatly, Hunter and Middlebooks did a better job stopping Burris from finding openings and throwing deep passes. But Stamps still got the edge.

Special Teams: Kicker Sandro deAngelis is ten times better than his counterpart Mike Vanderjagt. So too is Stamps punter Burke Dales. Stamps coverage team did a better job stopping the elusive Dorsey. Last game, the punt return finally had a good game. Howell and Jennings did a better job. I think Coach Dickerson just need to mix it like use Howell on one punt return then the other PR the next sequence. Reynolds is still consistent with the kickoff return. Only advantage Argos have is having an explosive Dorsey otherwise Calgary should have an advantage on this one.

Roster Moves:
Calgary:R Jabari Arthur, DL Pat McDonald and DB Milton Collins are in for R Michael Jennings(personal reason), DL Mike Labinjo(foot), OL Tim O'Neill are out.

Toronto: DL Riall Johnson(Teyo's brother), OL Jerome Davis and R Steve Schmidt are in. LB Jean-Nicolas Carriere(back),OL Kenyatta Walker and DB James Robinson(lower back) are out.

Calgary is in first place tie with the Saskatchewan Roughriders with 8-4 record. They are on the 3 games winning streak. Don Matthews haven't won since Matthews took over. The game starts at 5pm Calgary time and it will be televised on TSN.

Hmmm, Labinjo is out and Arthur is in. I wonder how much game action Arthur is going to see. Teyo and him in at the same time would cause matchup problems for ANY secondary.

I can't see the Stamps losing this one. Our offense wasn't clicking on all cylinders last week and we still throttled em. That, and I think the Argos, even thought theyre battling for a playoff spot, are at the point where they're all mailing it in considering all that has happened during the season. There's too much turmoil in the dressing room.

I'll predict a few more points, but Calgary still gets the W.

Stamps 37 Argos 17

Argonauts first possessions were good enough to score 3 points. I thought at first Defensive coordinator is messing up with the system from last week. The Stamps are just rushing 4 players and defensive backs are just waiting for the ball to go to the receivers. Pickett having success until the last play when Jones sent the DB blitzing.

Demetris Summers had a good kickoff return for 60 yards. Good field positions for Burris and the gang but Stamps went 2 and out. Sandro kicked 40 yard field goal and it's good. 3-3.

Toronto had 2 and out so as the Calgary.

I hate to say question Chris Jones decision on getting rid of QB pressures this early of the game. He is giving Pickett a lot of confidence making those passes. Argos just scored another field goal 6-3 Argos. It could have been 10-3 if Browner did not stop that pass on the end zone.

Henry is off to a terrible start. He just threw a pick in the end zone.

Good drive by the Stamps and also were helped by undiscipline penalty by an Argo defensive lineman. Stamps on the red zone but it was intercepted on the end zone by safety Kenny Wheaton just as the first quarter is ending. Still 6-3 Argos.

Brutal play by Vanderjagt, the Stamps baited him into trying a fake, even before the snap you could see he may try something.

Ends up not only not getting the fake pass away, but fumbles into the endzone and Stamps recover for a TD.

The idiot as Peyton Manning used to call him messed up again. He was trying to gamble and pass the ball. Brandon Smith was all over him and Vanderjagt fumbled the ball at the end zone. Newcomer Keon Raymond recovered the ball for a touchdown.

Calgary ahead 10-6.

Howell on interference penalty. Argos got the first down and Crawford ran it for 9 yards touchdown Argos. Toronto ahead again 13-10.

Still not a lot of pressures on QB and our offense is a little off as well. Not good so far.

This game is a perfect example of why people don't like the CFL. What a gong show. Both teams.

2:00 left in the first half. Stamps offense is still not clicking. Sandro missed a field goal but Calgary scored a couple of Safeties. Calgary 14-13.

What a bomb by Burris (70 yards in the air) and a catch in double coverage for a 61yd TD.

What a catch!!!

I cannot believed the referee didn't call it a touchdown. I am wondering what replay is he watching?? On the replay it shows the Argo players touched Copeland before he caught the ball then Copeland fell off the end zone. Noone even touch him after he fell. Anyways, Reynolds ran the ball to the end zone 21-13 Calgary.

Less than 20 seconds left and Johnson had a good kickoff return but Sandro to the rescue.

And, once again, the top-notch CFL reffing chalks up another good call.

Oh well, Reynolds cleaned up the garbage. Amazing catch either way, it'll be on TSN's plays of the day.

Weird play by Howell at the end of the half. Give a freaking single!!! He tried to run it and just barely got out of the end zone.

Oh, like the NFL never have a gong show before. Every single league in the world have a gong show whether it is football, baseball, basketball or even soccer.

I guess someone didn't see the Chargers lose to the Broncos in week 2 of the NFL.

Or the Bronco player lining stupidly offside on a key 3rd and 1 late in last week's game.
