Default Returning fake stuff from ebay?

I searched, and the only thread pertaining to ebay fakes is like a yr old... merge if needed...

I recently bought a "NWT Diesel jacket" for $400. The seller had good feedback, and I figured for that much cake, it'd be real. Well, definitely not real; no model name, lot, wash, lab, just a sewn in tag that says Diesel...

Has anyone successfully returned fakes? If so, what kind of language would one use? I'm thinking I could lodge a complaint with paypal, if the seller doesn't co-operate, as the item was misrepresented...

What does the CPoracle think?

Thanks,
alg

Any eBay complaint should start with the seller. Be firm but polite. They may also not have known it was fake.

Then if no satisfactory result bring up with Paypal; the old "ordered a Wii, got a block of wood" applies here.

Then with your CC company.

If the first email with the seller doesn't yield results, remind them that selling counterfeit goods is a crime; and that you'd rather look at this as an honest mistake.

Don't feel bad, man. I'm sure you aren't the only one who's gotten the shaft.

About 3 years ago, I bought a t-shirt off Ebay which turned out to be a fake. Cheap silkscreen done in some dude's basement...

I went back to the original ad and noticed it did not say that the item was "authentic", thus I left it and did not follow up. Besides, the item was only about $20. Not worth the effort.

Now when I bid on something, I make sure the ad says "100% authentic" or I don't bid. Be wary of where the item is coming from too. Anywhere in Asia raises a red flag with me!

Good luck, I'm interested in seeing if anyone has any experience on this.

Yeah, if you have ever been to Asia, the streets are literally full of little booths selling Diesel goods inparticular! I have a nice Diesel jacket i paid a few bucks ($12?) for... Diesel stuff is so cheap and so prevelant i would hesitate to wear the authentic stuff (because the brand no longer has inherent value), not to mention $400 jackets off of ebay.

I don't think it matters whether it was '100% authentic'. It is a known brandname and to sell knock-offs is, as mentioned, illegal with or without a '100% authentic' declaration.

Yeah, I totally missed the point on that one, but I assumed algernon was more concerned about his own purchase and getting ripped off rather than the larger issue at hand.

I've never had to return anything but I've purchased items on ebay and had them not show up before. In these cases I wasn't given a tracking number so it was an easy case to present to ebay/paypal. I got my money back so that I could purchase from a different seller.

Are you absolutely sure it is fake? I know the jeans come with wash/lab/etc, but the other items don't necessarily. I would try posting a picture at honestforum.com to make sure that it is fake. Is there microsticting (a shiny strip that says diesel) on the tag?

If it does turn out to be fake, then paypal should return your money. Regardless of how the seller advertised the item, it is illegal to sell fake items.

Can you post a link to the ebay item?

I actually signed up last night to honestforum.com, haha. Still waiting to hear from them. One guy said I should get a beating for buying such an ugly jacket, lol...I mean could a little metro guy with a 28 waist beat me down?(I'm not a tough guy, but with my reach advantage, I'd likely just hold my hand on top of his head while he windmilled the air in front of my waist)...

So yeah, it has the tag with the silver stitching, but just seems cheaply made, the zipper pulls don't really match the zipper slide, and there are some loose threads that should've been trimmed by the seamstress, and the rivets are generic... I dunno, I just would expect a little more attention to detail...

I notice it doesn't say it's authentic in the auction... at least not that I can read. However, it does say "New, With Tags" So I'd have to ask if there were tags attached and what they looked like. If there weren't any, you can catch him there as he clearly lied. If there are, do they look like authentic tags?

Yeah it had a white Diesel tag on it, but not with the standard bar-code sticker with the model and suggested price. The sticker looks to have been taken off. Also, The tag is held on with a string, as opposed to the little plastic pierced-thingies.

Diesel uses a string normally. plastic things put holes in clothes.
Judging from the pictures, I would say this is real...
I've never bought off ebay, but the guy mentions no returns in the listing. idk...

I searched and found this before you posted the link (and it was easy, not many $400 ones). Diesel stuff...always looks like that. It usually does look "cheap" and "distressed" with a bit of mismatching. I would say it has a good chance of being real. What was on the other side of the tag? The sticker could have been taken off by him or not applied as the sticker applied varies by each store in each region it's sold. It is somewhat of an ugly jacket but I looked at his other auctions and the clothes seemed decent without any complaints from buyers. His other items sold don't look too fake. I would say that it is real. The jackets don't have the same tag info as the jeans do.

The sad part is that this jacket was likely made in the same way and not far from where the 'cheaply' made fake ones were.

I don't mind paying a lot for a well made item that is not mass produced and is manufactured out of quality materials (likely made in Italy, USA or Canada - although there are exceptions and ways around that) OR not paying a lot for cheaply made items from China, India, Turkey, etc. The only thing that really bothers me is paying a lot for a cheaply made product from a brand name that used to be well made.

This is totally one of my pet peeves though...

They probably took the sticker off because the "boutique" was probably a factory store and they don't want you to know what they really paid for it. It looks real to me, but if you're really concered, you can take it to a Diesel store and they'll tell you.

I bought a mens Coach wallet on Ebay as a gift, my local store was out of stock. When it arrived, it didn't look quite right so I took it to my local Coach store and they confirmed it was not authentic. I contacted the seller on EBAY and I demaded all my money back, even my shipping charges. The seller must have known it was fake, because they didn't even want me to mail it back to them (at their expense). I didn't think it would be a fake because I paid about the same amount as I would've in the store.

If it has that silver strip, that is the best way to tell for fakes. IF you look closely on a real silver strip you should barely be able to read the word "diesel" and it should be stitched in as opposed to just painted on.

Its called microstictching and there should be a sticky on honestforum to help you tell fake from real

Ok, first thanks for the help from everyone. As I was in Vegas last weekend, I took the jacket to a Diesel store...and it's real.

I wanted to bump this so I would not be slandering the seller anymore. I sent him an apology, and gave him good feedback.

Thanks CP,
alg

Well, I still dig their jeans. Their shirts, not so much-$200 for a long-sleeve T? No thanks.
