Dude kills himself going wrong way on deerfoot
I came across this gruesome accident this morning, a guy on a motorcycle apparently committed suicide by ramming into a 4x4 head-on going fast the wrong way on deerfoot. when i came across the accident they had most of his body parts covered up but not all, the only way i knew it was a bike was from one tire lying in the ditch, everything else was just little pieces scattered for a block up the deerfoot. Looked more like a bomb blast from Iraq than an accident.
Why in hell would someone choose to die in that fashion is beyond me. At least the truck driver wasn't physically hurt but i bet mentally he'll never be the same.
Unreal

that is more common that you may think, there was a report on the news not so long ago about the frequency of accidents that are head scratchers and how they may actually be suicide attempts...

You have to feel sorry for the emergency workers. They dont deserve crap like that.

I've wondered that as well, particularily driving down those 2 lane highways in the country. How easy would it be for someone to cross over that center line.
Unlike alot of suicide attempts it wouldn't even take any planning or effort. Just decide you've had enough and turn left.

I think it was back in the 80s, but a friend of my Uncles was killed when someone committed suicide by ramming their car into his vehicle. So much for a victimless crime. Couldn't this guy on the Deerfoot just have found a concrete pillar or something? Jeez.

Hate to say it, but I hope the guy burns in hell, that was a very selfish thing to do if it was indeed suicide. There is no therapy that is going to erase the memory that the person(s) in the truck will have to carry with them for the rest of their life.
Like oilers_fan said, if you're going to off yourself, go find a big fat pillar.

Thank god he hit a damn big truck and not some poor family in a tiny car killing someone - other than himself.

Was it confirmed that it was in fact suicide? How did they know for sure?

My wife saw a lady - or perhaps teenager (not sure) jump off the 10th Street bridge just over a week ago. She screamed on the way down and landed on the ice. They had to get a crane to get at her as the river was thawed on either side. Who knows what goes through people's heads.

As someone who has attempted to take their own life, I understand in a way why this person decided to take their own life. However, to do in this manner is stupid, not only are you going to hurt those who love you, you ended up hurting some other innocent people. It's shame the person could not get the help they needed.

I could see that commotion from my office. I was wondering what happened and thought it would be on the news, but it wasn't. I think the news doesn't report suicides.

Every time I hear about gruesome suicide attempts, I can't help but think of this post from Reaper in a previous thread:

I work in the Catholic School Board building right beside that bridge, and coincidentally, had a police office in my office about 20 minutes after it happened. (investigating an attempted break in). Anyway, he told me that she tried to commit suicide, but instead managed to break both legs and had some suspected spinal cord damage. So instead of downing a bottle of sleeping pills like the old days, she takes up an hour or so of 30ish emergency workers and will cost our health care system thousands of dollars. I just don't get it.
On a side note, it was pretty darn cool watching them hoist her up with that fire truck!

I haven't read this whole thread, but in the life insurance industry they see this an awful lot with elderly men. I understand that this is a high category of suicides, and usually this is how they do it. It looks as though they fell asleep at the wheel.

They generally don't, as they don't want to encourage copycats. There were a lot of rumours of a suicide pact in Airdrie about seven or eight years ago, which didn't make the news until the third kid killed themselves, and it became a public awareness issue with police asking parents to talk to their kids.
