Reporting bad drivers?

After a road rage encounter with one of Calgary's finest driver's this morning, I got to thinking:

I got the guy's plate; does anyone know if it is possible to report individuals such as this? Does anything happen, or does it turn into a case of he says - she says?

The more detailed the account of the incident and the more witnesses the better, but you should always report it since there may be a history on this guy.

This thread is timely since yesterday my family was almost run over by a 16 year old while walking around our neighborhood (kid+speeding+sun low on horizon). Gave a detailed report to the RCMP (we are outside the city) and hopefully this kid will be charged with Dangerous Operation of Motor vehicle...apparently his parents had banned him from driving outside of the neighborhood because of his reckless driving...

I reported a bad driver years ago. He passed me on a highway shoulder. I went to the local RCMP office and made a complaint. He went to court and I went before the judge. He claimed not to remember it, but was convicted and issued a ticket.

Trying to make the world a little better place is always worth the effort.

Here in Saskatoon there was an elderly woman doing 25 down one of our main (one lane, gotta love the small city) streets. My buddy was 'riding her' bumper pretty close, and like swerving back and forth. I am in no way condoning his actions, blah blah, whatevs, just stating an example.

Anyway, he eventually just pulled out and passed her high way style, she then took his plate and gave it to the cops and reported him for reckless driving. It came down to a his word vs. hers, she was elderly with a perfect driving record, he was 17 with a few speeding tickets. End result, he had to pay the ticket.

I've called the cities non emergency line and called in a dangerous driver before. The person on the other end asked if I got the license plate, which I had, and she also asked their last known direction of travel.

I'm sure nothing came of it!

Sort of in the same theme of reporting bad drivers, how about reporting people who park in handicapped zones?

I remember at the Coventry Superstore, this girl (20 years old or so) parked her Integra in the handicapped zone, when I came out 30 minutes later, her car was still there however the only difference was that her blinkers were on!

Had I written down the plates and called the non-emergency line, would they really have done anything? I doubt that Superstore security would have any involvement and I've got no idea what the number is for bylaw/parking authority.

When I was at Ikea a couple of months ago, some guy had his massive Suburban parked in the stalls reserved for Hybrids. His window was down so I threw my Tim Horton's cup and garbage in his vehicle. I hope coffee spilled all over his seats.

I'd laugh if someone knocked you out for a stunt like that, thats about as classy as keying a vehicle.. I didnt realize people with hybrids warranted special parking priveldges.. I guess they are kind of ######ed believing they are making a difference in the world, but thats not handicapped enough to deserve closer parking..

Yeah, he's a ###### but you're a double ###### for throwing garbage in his car. You're lucky the guy didn't get out and beat the hell out of you with how people tend to feel about their cars.

Whatever, he was taking up more than his share of the stall and honestly I could give two ***** what the guy thinks. He obviously thinks his crap doesn't stink so I don't regret at all what I did. It wasn't like a pile of garbage either.

The biggest problem I had with the whole thing was his complete irregard for rules. Most of the time I'm driving, it's people in massive vehicles who think they own the road. Well, I figured this was a small little payback.

I agree with the stupidity of having special spots for Hybrids but throwing garbage in someone's car is not anywhere close as to keying a car.

Whether hybrids warrant parking priveleges is a separate topic, it's more the whole concept of following the rules and actually parking in the normal lots with rest of us "normal size car" folks.

And I'm pretty sure keyin a vehicle costs money to repair, where throwing out garbage doesn't cost anything. I wouldn't do anything to harm his precious SUV don't worry.

Someone's sure got small car syndrome.. When you initially told the story it sounded like you threw half a coffee in the window, I'm pretty sure getting your vehicle steam cleaned isnt free.. You should apply to the city to be a parking control officer.. Then you could dish out the sweet justice you desperately crave..

I was passed on our gravel road leading to our place by this king cab trucking pulling a 24+ foot trailer, the trailer went into the ditch and swung towards our van and threw up a virtual hailstorm of rocks onto my windshield. Once I realized the damage to my windsheild was pretty severe I decide to follow the truck down and get their insurance infomation.

To make a long story short, the woman refuse to even talk to me, threatened to have me arrested for trespassing, so I got her plate number and called the RCMP to find out what if anything I could do about it.

Long story short, she got a call from the RCMP that explained to her that she did something illegal ( passing on a dirt road ) and that she probably would have been charged with reckless driving had there been any other witnesses or our vehicles had actually collided.

The RCMP called us back and gave us her name and the info we needed to pass along to our insuance company if we decided to file a claim against her.

Yup I'm sure the guy got the message.
I'm sure it went something along the lines of:

"Hey there's garbage in my truck.....hey, there's coffee on my front seat....DAMN WHY DID I PARK IN THE HYBRID SPOT?!?!"
