Hey all, i seem to have gouged my snowboard at Louise today. I googled it and found ptex candles can fix this. Any idea where to find these, or other solutions? Thanks in advance.

You can buy base fillers from ski shops.. I dunno, depends how bad the gouge is.. I usually just leave them unless its almost through..

it's through the first layer of the base. Can that cause future damage? I never had problems with gouges on my old board which i had for 5 years. 2 times on my new one and this happens. Maybe it was just the junk conditions of louise though. Bah, just annoyed at the situation.

I used to run a skate / snow shop. I'd suggest taking it to your nearest local shop and paying the nominal fee to get it fixed. Or I suppose you could buy an iron and some wax, but get those who do it for a living to fix it for you properly.
edit: Out of curiousity, what kind of board are you riding? I've always been partial to Supernat's

I'm riding a Burton Custom. Bought it this year after years of riding a cheap ride board. Amazing the difference between a high end board and my old one. So much faster and responsive, just annoyed that it got gouged so quickly after buying it!

Welcome to the most basic of ski/snowboard repairs. Been around for at least a couple decades.
If you have to ask about Ptex, take ResAliens advice and just to a shop and have them fix it. But for the future, learn about it and do it yourself. It isn't hard.

Burton stuff seems to damage easily.. that goes for outerwear and equipment.. I prefer the 4 star distribution stuff, forum, foursquare, and special blend.. It lasts me for 5+ years everytime..

To expand a bit on my earlier post, if you want to learn to fix it yourself it's cake. Basically it's just melting a bit of wax and filling the gouge. Any snow shop will have the stuff you need. Go ahead and buy the "special" board iron, which is essentially a midget regular iron. If you use your normal home one you'll jack it all up w/ wax.

this seems pretty funny because Burton owns four star dist. and has for atleast 3 years. A gouge is usually the case of the conditions not the equipment. Ya take the board to any shop they'll fix er up good.

I dont think so.. Peter Line owns 4 star, or atleast he started it.. I dont see anywhere on the net that backs up your claim.. Plus wheres the unmistakable dive in quality, and the elimination of lifetime warranties that would come with Burton ownership..?
EDIT: Nevermind.. Sad.. I hate burton crap.. Thankfully all my gear is older..

Agreed. Unless it is a core shot (scratch/gouge through to the base), I'd just leave it. Surface base scratches won't effect your riding.
The main concern with a core shot is that it may expose the core of the snowboard to water.
Water + wood = bad news.

Just as an FYI, Ride, K2 and Morrow are the same company.
Same with Salomon and Bonfire. (owned by Adidas)

A lot of people beef on Burton but I have had nothing but good service from them. I have snapped/destroyed 2 boards from them over the years and both have been warrantied without question. A buddy of mine went through 3 uninc's last year and they just kept sending him new ones. Now you might make the argument that the boards break a lot from what i have said but realistically we both thrash our boards so it's more on us than the manufacturer.
