I like those odds!
Seriously though... that's pretty concerning...but like what Mel said... that ought to boost the HPV vaccine's usage.

Everyone at school was talking about this video yesterday:

Not sure what to make of it. Absolutely sick if true and still sick if not true.

Yeah but the devil's in the details here. 18% overal had the HPV virus which is really common. The rest of those in the STD category ranked 7% of the teen population.
Hell I'd ask all of you to get checked for HPV and I guarentee that a large majority of us will have it. It's even more common in the general population than in the teen population. It usually presents with zero tangible symptoms and in men and it has pretty much zero impact on our health. It's an issue for females due to increases in risk for cervical cancer. So say ewwww all you want but unless you've only had protected sex with only limited partners, chances are you have it too.

there are studies that indicate HPV may have a similar causative role in oral and esophageal cancers, so ... umm ... beware what taco you are munching on, or straw you are sipping out of

I'm sure there are studies which indicate the potential drawbacks of female oral cancers caused by HPV are far out weighed buy the positive effects of steady diet of protien shakes... and if there isn't... there should be..
Does anyone else find it ironc that shortly after megapharm comes out with a new HPV vacine, suddenly every second study, school board meeting and tv ad, is about HPV?....

I asked my doctor about hearing that 1/3 people have STDs. She said that's about right. Always wear a condom and get tested.

On a more serious note, can HPV be tested for in a traditional STD test or does it require a specific test?

From the CDC website:
HPV usually goes away on its own, without causing health problems.
(Except when it doesnt go away, women can get cancer and die. )

Weird. It wasn't like that yesterday. Everyone is probably better off not seeing it. It's sick more than anything else, but relates directly to the topic we are discussing in this thread.
