Parking lot hit and run......AGAIN!!!
So for the third time in 4 years my wife's car has been hit and run in a parking lot. First time cost about $750, second time we didn't fix it but would probably be about $500. These two incidents happened at her WORK parking lot!!! (I guess there is an "I" in team afterall)
Today we see damage to her car which is about nine months old, multiple substantial scatches to paint and bumper, I'm guessing $300 to $400 dollars to fix this one.
Who are these people?? How can you knowingly damage someones property and then take off?? Anyone who has had anything to do with a body shop knows the huge cost associated with Autobody repair and running away from your responsibility is just plain pathetic, juvenile, selfish behaviour. Not to mention criminal.
Hit and run drivers should have their license revolked until the can prove they
a) actually do have a spine
and
b) are mature enough to accept responsibility for their actions.

There's all kinds of morons out there. A year ago we went to Mexico for Christmas. We left our van at a friend's place to avoid the cost of leaving it at a park and fly for two weeks. The night before we returned he drove it to the airport and left it in the main parkade for us. On his way there one of a group of punks walking down the sidewalk threw a full beer can at the vehicle, putting a couple nasty dents and a few scratches in the side door. The repair bill was about $700. There was no provocation ... just punks being punks.

That sucks when it does happen. You might want to get your wife to check the fromt bumpers of the other cars in the lot. Chances are there's damage to their front end if one of the hit your wifes car.
Myself i get extremley paranoid when in parking lots. I often park at the furthest reaches to avoid the door dings ands people backing into me.

That's a good idea, if your dumb enough to do it in the first place you probably wouldn't even conceive of the idea to cover it up.

I am the exact same way, I hate door dings with a passion and I'll park far away if it means avoiding them. i also never park where stray carts are left at grocery stores.
However, good news. I broke my leg a few months ago (ok maybe not that part) so I had to get a handicap permit. It expires next March, so now I can park super close with extra fat spots. It's especially handy when going to the movie theater on weekends.

Who the hell throws a full beer? A full can of soda water, maybe. But beer?
And prairieboy... I don't want to get personal, but it did occur to me that perhaps your wife has "parking issues". Are you sure it is an external force damaging your wife's vehicle?

me too, back corner, my truck is too nice for some loser in his tempest (or more likely HER YELLOW sunfire...) to ding a door on...

I have always parked my car out of the way, preferably at an end spot where I'll hug the curb to avoid a door ding. I drove my last car for four years and never a scratch. I finally splurge and get a BMW, and after having it for two months I have a set of scratches about three inches wide that run about three or four inches down the trunk from the top then down the back. It happened at my work. It appears someone set something down on my truck and it started to slide down, its not car on car damage and its not keying. Its more of a scraping and there's no way to scratch a car where these are and not notice you did it. Of course there's no note. Its very irritating how people think they can damage your car and just walk away.
I don't know what the cost would be to fix it if it requires a trip to the body shop. I'm hoping they're not to deep and a detail guy could get them out.

I'm not ruling that out. There was the one time she sideswiped a minivan as we sped to Homesense before our 10% off coupons expired.
You just can't be sure can you?
PS You spelt my name wrong

Ha... Sorry, man.
OK, let's bash the parking impaired. I just don't get it. I've scolded my own father for being a lazy parker. It's really not that tough to get between the lines. In an empty parking lot, go ahead and take up 3 spaces, but come on, when there are alot of cars, park your damn vehicle properly. Take that extra 3 seconds and ensure a ding free parking experience, lest I murder you.

My girlfriend and I were in Dalhousie station awhile ago going into Chapters. When we came out a truck was running, sitting beside my girlfriend's car. As I got into the driver seat, he rolled down his window and told me that an old lady had pulled her boat into the stall across from us and hit our car. He said he waited to tell us because he had a hit-n-run in a parking lot and didnt want us to deal with the same thing.
Sure enough, upon inspection, there was a pretty good dent and some scratches in the bumper. We waited around and confronted the other driver and got the bumper fixed.
We wouldnt have noticed the damage until later if it wasnt for that guy and the grandma wasnt about to fess up without confrontation.

I don't see the problem with manuvering your car at 5km/hr into a small space. I guess looking around isn't part of the process.
My hope is that one of the miscreants who pull this crap will read this thread and get there act together.
I'm not sure my wife reads Calgarypuck, should I post elsewhere?
MODS, please delete this thread immediately in case my wife does read Calgarypuck.

Good thing my mother doesn't read CP, because she's never able to park between the lines. It's either over one of the lines or she's parked at an angle

Here is where a majority of the problem lies...small spots. Add in the size of some SUVs and Trucks today and we got issues.
Commercial Parking Lot designers try to jam as many spots into a parking lot as humanly possible to potentially increase the number of consumers and therefore consumer spending. I always love those angled parking lots or the ones that have the buffer between spaces. Sometimes I actually go out of my way to shop at places with better parking lots... hopefully that Cross Iron Mills Mall can utilize that massive space to get some spacious spots!
